Nick Walsh Speaks To [Part 2]

What have you been up to since we last spoke?

NW: I have recently formed a company called The Performance Project with two other members of the fitness industry. We all have experience in different areas, so we decided to combine our knowledge and skills to create a brand that offers everything from gym clothing through to online coaching. So I’ve been fairly busy with that, we’ve got a few of our clients competing at shows around the country this summer so we’re hoping to see them do well!

What got you serious about the fitness lifestyle?

NW: I’ve always enjoyed lifting weights. But it wasn’t until my late teens that I started studying the nutrition side of the lifestyle and discovering the benefits it has both in and outside the gym. So I guess once I figured out how I could use nutrition to enhance my results I caught the bug and started taking it a lot more seriously.

Where do you get your motivation from?

NW: Results. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that once you realise that you are doing something with your body that it wouldn’t have been able to do the month before, it pushes you to see what else you can achieve. The industry itself is also very supportive, people will always go out of their way to give you encouragement when it’s needed.

For someone who has already been there and done it what would you say is the biggest mistake people make when trying to undergo a transformation?

NW: Following what someone else is doing. It’s easy to get caught up in believing that a certain diet, supplement or workout will get you all the results you want. But in reality we’re all different, you need to follow your own path and make your own decisions, otherwise you’ll just end up spinning your wheels or giving up.

What’s your favourite body part?

NW: Probably my delts, genetic strong point.


If you could give only 3 pieces of advice to a newbie what would they be?

1) If a supplement sounds too good to be true it probably is.
2) Always ensure you are using progressive overload.
3) Work out your macros, even if you don’t track what you are consuming regularly. At least it’ll give you a ball park figure for what you should be consuming.

What are your goals for 2014?

NW: I did want to compete again but due to the launch of The Performance Project I’ve decided to put all my focus into the company and our clients this year. This will also give me a chance to build a bigger and better physique for 2015.
