Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates is still picking up accolades decades after his retirement. In a recent post shared via Instagram on June 4, 2025, head judge Steve Weinberger honored Yates with a commemorative Mr. Olympia 60th anniversary ring.
Throughout his career, Yates continuously proved himself at the highest levels in the Men’s Open. He succeeded eight-time winner Lee Haney‘s reign and carried the torch for six consecutive years, laying waste to his competition with unprecedented muscle hardness and size.
Despite tearing his tricep and bicep, Yates always found a way to win, even when tasked with facing aesthetic greats like Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, and Kevin Levrone. His training style differed greatly from many of the sport’s top names. Instead of sticking with a set number of reps and sets, Yates utilized an approach he learned from the late Mike Mentzer and Arthur Jones. This system involved going to failure on a single set to induce hypertrophy.
Yates retired with only two career losses and never surrendered the Sandow trophy to an opponent. He’s still celebrated today for his achievements in the IFBB Pro League. On top of that, his longevity and training wisdom continue to shape the next wave of bodybuilding contenders on the come-up.

Once a Mr. Olympia, always a Mr. Olympia. Yates remains committed to working out at 63 years old. Yates still carries a huge back, thick calves, and a sharply defined six-pack long after leaving the stage. Now that he’s not tied up with prep, he’s able to watch the Men’s Open more closely. At the 2024 Mr. Olympia, fellow UK standout Samson Dauda took home the title—and got a 60th anniversary ring to go with it.
Only 19 athletes in the world have managed to hoist the prestigious Sandow trophy above their shoulders, and Yates is one of them. He continues to serve as a top role model and ambassador for the growing sport. As one of the most dominant Mr. Olympia champions of all time, fans haven’t forgotten what he brought to the table throughout his illustrious six-year reign.
