Now, Dr. Rhonda Patrick is back to discuss more details on putting on muscle. In a recent YouTube video, she shares that you do not have to lift heavy weights to put on mass. This was proven to be effective with both trained and untrained men.

“Well that’s the golden question that first, Stu Phillips he showed that, years ago, that people, he did in untrained people first, so he showed that untrained men could gain just as much muscle mass and strength lifting lighter weights as the men lifting heavy weights, as long as they put in the effort.”

“So the volume and effort has to be high. So you have to, you’ll probably do a longer duration. It’ll be more, you’ll be doing more effort, but you can gain as much muscle mass and strength if you’re doing lighter weights, as long as you’re putting in that effort” said Dr. Rhonda Patrick.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick emphasizes the importance of the effort put in with the lower weights, explaining that to gain the same results you have to apply extra effort.

“And then Brad Schoenfeld came in after because he was like, Stu that was untrained men. Come on. He then did it on trained men and lo and behold guess what? Same data. Same results. So the trained men also could gain as much muscle mass and strength by lifting lower, doing lower weights, as long as the effort, that’s the key, effort. Right? You have to put in enough, you have to be fatigued.”
