The 2024 CrossFit Open Workout 24.2 was officially announced on March 7th, 2024. It was first revealed by the WWE champion, Seth Rollins, but was then demonstrated by a pair of high-level male athletes, Justin Medeiros and Colten Mertens. The purpose of the duel is to provide entertainment, but also showing how the greatest athletes strategize and perform the workout, thus helping anyone who plans to participate.
The 2024 CrossFit Open is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, as all gym-goers from any part of the world had an opportunity to take part. In turn, countless thousands of people actually did take on the Open, some in the hopes of making it to the next stage, others just for the thrill of it. So, like before, Workout 24.2 is also featuring “Scaled” and “Foundations” versions, which are made for those who aren’t quite capable of performing the regular RX’d version.
The 2024 CrossFit Open Workout 24.2 is quite a test of endurance, as the athletes have to push themselves for 20 minutes. They also need to strategize correctly, as it is almost impossible to maintain a high pace for that timeframe. The deadline for the video submissions of Workout 24.2 is 5 p.m. PT on March 11th.

- 300-meter row
- 10 deadlifts
- 50 double-unders
Men’s deadlifts: 185 pounds (83 kilograms)
Women’s deadlifts: 125 pounds (56 kilograms)
Scaled
As many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:

Women’s deadlift: 95 pounds (43 kilograms)
Men’s Deadlift: 135 pounds (61 kilograms)
Foundations
As many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
- 30 strokes on the rower
- 10 deadlifts
- 50 single-unders or jumping jacks
Women’s deadlift: 55 pounds (25 kilograms)*
Men’s deadlift: 75 pounds (34 kilograms)*
*The load is a suggested starting point. If you are completing all the tests in the Foundations division, you are free to decrease or increase the load as your skill level allows.

The Duel
The first workout of the 2024 CrossFit Open featured two duels, one for men and one for women. However, the demonstration of Workout 24.2 consists of just one, but it is luckily an incredible matchup.
The first participant in the duel was Justin Medeiros, who is easily one of the most prominent CrossFit figures in the past few years. He has won two editions of the CrossFit Games back in 2021 and 2022. Moreover, during those same years, Justin also managed to top the podium at the Rogue Invitational, proving that his dominance was no fluke. Unfortunately, he had a very bad season for his standards in 2023, but he is hopeful of reclaiming his titles this year.
His opponent was Colten Mertens, another CrossFit athlete who has shown impressive resilience on multiple occasions. Mertens had encountered setbacks at the start of the 2023 season, being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody disease. However, he managed to overcome it and have one of the best seasons of his career, finishing 18th at the 2023 CrossFit Games. Colten now hopes to make 2024 an even better year for him.
Justin Medeiros had a height advantage over Colten Mertens, which turned out to be very beneficial for him on the row machine. So, Colten hoped to make it up on the deadlift or the double-unders, but Justin did not give him any room to catch up. Both men were absolutely incredible, never taking a second to rest throughout the entire 20 minutes, except for taking a few breaths while transitioning from one exercise to the next. In the end, Justin finished with 926 repetitions, while Colten’s rep tally came out to 922.

Only one workout remains to be announced for the 2024 CrossFit Open, which is Workout 24.3. The official presentation ceremony will take place on March 14th, while the competitors have a few more days to submit their performances. So, less than two weeks remain until the Open wraps up completely.
