Garard and Cary squeezed out tight victories after two days of competition.

The first major CrossFit competition of the year is the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami, which started on January 11th and spanned across four days. The first two days of the competition saw the Elite Individuals compete. Specifically, each of the men’s and women’s divisions consisted of 40 athletes, and they all took part in five events. In the end, Ricky Garard and Emma Cary came out victorious.

Both Ricky Garard and Emma Cary had a tight path toward victory at the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami. Thus, Emma won the women’s division with a 6-point lead, while Ricky managed to fend off late title charges from Brent Fikowski and finished 19.5 points ahead of the Canadian.

Women’s Results

Julia Hannaford crushed the first event, and was one of two women who managed to snatch and hang snatch 195 pounds. Dani Speegle was the other one, but Julia won the tiebreaker and took the max points.

Guilherme Malheiros is known for his incredible strength, which he displayed once again at the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami. He ended up lifting 310 pounds, which was significantly more than what he needed to do for the event win.

Women’s Results

One female athlete stood out from the rest in the second event of the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami. That was none other than Arielle Loewen, as she finished the entire workout in 8 minutes and 10 seconds, thus being over 20 seconds faster than the next best woman.

Similarly to how the women’s division turned out, Colten Mertens was also one athlete that dominated the rest. In fact, he beat out the second-place finisher by over half a minute and displayed incredible fitness levels.

Women’s Results

The third workout for the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami suited Emma Carry the best, which is why she was able to top the rankings in both parts. She had the most total reps, coming out to 179, but also was the fastest athlete to finish Part C of the workout.

Ricky Garard won the first part of the third workout due to performing the most reps overall, while also placing third in the second part, where he finished with a time of 06:02.12. So, he got 50 points for the first part, and another 47 points for the second part of the workout.

As always, when swimming portions are added to workouts, they can become much more complicated. Well, Grace Walton utilized the fact and glided her way to max points in the fourth workout of the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami.

Multiple tight face-offs took place in the men’s division, but James Sprague managed to get ahead of everyone. So, he was the only man to complete the entire circuit in under 13 minutes.

Women’s Results

Danielle Brandon took the win in the final event of the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami with a time of just over eight minutes. However, an epic battle took place behind her as well, as Emma Carry and Gabriela Migala were fighting for the title. With just three points separating them before the final event, the title would go to whoever placed higher. Emma Carry ended up being 20 seconds faster and winning the competition.

Brent Fikowski gave it his all in hopes of claiming the title, and even managed to win the final event of the competition. However, Ricky Garard did not give up too many points, as he finished in second-place of the event. In turn, he still had enough points to win the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza Miami.
