The 2023 CrossFit Open Workout 23.1 marked the start of a new season, and it was an event that brought excitement to the CrossFit community. The organizers brought out four elite athletes to take part in two duels, with the women’s duel featuring Laura Horvath and Gabriela Migala. The two women put up fantastic performances, but shortly after bad news struck as CrossFit announced that their Open Workout 23.1 results were not valid due to a misloaded barbell.
The misloaded barbell weighed 5 kilograms (11 pounds) less than what it was supposed to, which made the results of Horvath and Migala invalid. Although this is definitely devastating news for both athletes who had put in a lot of effort and energy into the workout, they now have to put it behind them and focus on submitting another result.
“CrossFit athletes Camila Granizo, Laura Horvath and Gabriela Migala put on an incredible performance kicking off the 2023 CrossFit Open. CrossFit mistakenly misloaded the women’s barbells during the 23.1 Announcement, which resulted in the weights being lighter than prescribed. The barbells in today’s test weighed 38 kg instead of the prescribed 43 kg.”
CrossFit has strict rules and regulations when it comes to the equipment used during workouts, and they take any discrepancies very seriously. The weight of the barbell is a critical component of the workout, and any errors in loading can significantly affect the results of the athletes. The misloaded barbell was an unfortunate mistake, but there is no other solution opposed to terminating the result of Laura Horvath and Gabriela Migala.
“Despite their efforts, Granizo, Horvath and Migala will not be able to have their scores from this attempt validated.
It was solely CrossFit’s responsibility to load the barbells to the correct weight and we apologize for the error.”
