Arnold Schwarzenegger Highlights New Research: High-Intensity Workouts a Key to Cutting Metastatic Cancer Risk by 70%

"If you want to train like the scientists suggest, the name of the game is intensity, such as achieving at least 80 percent of your maximum heart rate," Schwarzenegger explained.

Everyone knows that working out is good for physical and mental health, but did you know it also helps prevent cancer? In his recent Arnold’s Pump Club newsletter, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared how high-intensity workouts can help reduce the risk of metastatic cancer, making it more challenging for cells to spread.

“Exercise not only keeps your body fit, but it also has a remarkable ability to protect your organs from cancer and prevent it from spreading.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s dedication to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is evident in his relentless pursuit of physical fitness, even as he has transitioned through various roles in his life such as bodybuilding, acting, and even politics. At 76, Schwarzenegger works out at least 45 minutes a day believing that if ‘you rest, you rust.‘

Schwarzenegger’s commitment to health extends beyond personal gains as he continues to advocate for wellness practices. While on a mission to preserve his youth, Schwarzenegger has built a database of knowledge regarding exercise, nutrition, and well-being all while striving to inspire others to adopt a proactive approach to their quality of life.

In a recent newsletter, Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals how high-intensity workouts can help keep cancer away.

“A 20-year review found that high-intensity exercise reduces the risk of metastatic cancer by more than 70 percent.

“The research was one of the first to examine the relationship between secondary cancer growths (metastases in areas like the lungs and liver) and exercise behaviors.”

The study provides the ultimate motivator, the harder you train the more likely the body is to resist cancer cells.

“The scientists found that exercise appears to provide an “exercise-induced metabolic shield.” In other words, training at higher intensities increases the immune system’s ability to recognize and eliminate cancer cells. The study also suggests that high-intensity exercise makes it harder for cancer cells to survive and grow” Arnold says.

While intensity seems to be a driving factor when ensuring cancer prevention, even simply walking can help increase the body’s natural ability to fight off cancer cells.

“If you want to train like the scientists suggest, the name of the game is intensity, such as achieving at least 80 percent of your maximum heart rate.”

“You can still protect your health if you can’t push as hard. Research suggests that even walking can lead to a 20 percent reduction in the likelihood of cancer.”

This isn’t the first time that Arnold Schwarzenegger has discussed ways of providing the body with protection against illnesses. Previously he shared that taking a multivitamin, especially for individuals 60 and older, can help ‘give the body more insurance’ while also improving memory and cognitive markers.

Even though Schwarzenegger advocates for taking a multivitamin, not all supplements are created equal. Fish oil that is traditionally sold over the counter has been proven to not provide the necessary amounts of DHA and EPA required to be beneficial.
