Hampton Morris was recognized as one of the greatest male weightlifting prospects in the USA, which is why many were excited to see him compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. So, Hampton competed in the 61-kilogram weight class, which took the stage on the first day of the weightlifting segment. He definitely fulfilled the expectations, becoming the first man from the US to secure a medal at the Olympics in the last 40 years.

Hampton Morris’ Full Performance

Hampton Morris secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing only behind Li Fabin and Theerapong Silachai. This made him the first male US weightlifter to secure a medal at the Olympics since Guy Carlton (Bronze) and Mario Martinez (Silver), who achieved so at the 1984 Olympics. For reference, that happened 20 years before Hampton Morris was even born.

Snatch

The snatch was the first event of the weightlifting competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, it was an event where Hampton Morris knew that he had to do damage control against some of his rivals, who were absolutely incredible.

Hampton Morris opened up with a 122-kilogram (269-pound) snatch and wanted to add three more kilograms (6.6 pounds) for his second attempt. However, his second attempt turned out to be unsuccessful, putting him in a very uncomfortable position. Hampton was still confident and opted to lift 126 kilograms (277.8 pounds) on his final snatch. Luckily, this attempt was successful and gave him a good base for the Clean & Jerk

  • 122 kilograms (269 pounds)
  • Unsuccessful — 125 kilograms (275.6 pounds)
  • 126 kilograms (277.8 pounds)

Clean & Jerk

Hampton Morris encountered more trouble on the Clean & Jerk event, having failed his opener of 168 kilograms (370.4 pounds). However, he still decided to increase the weight to 172 kilograms (379.2 pounds) on his second attempt, as that was exactly enough to get him up to third place overall. Everything went well, and Hampton managed to successfully lock out the lift.

With third place secured, Hampton Morris tried to break the World Record on his final attempt with a lift of 178 kilograms (392.4 pounds), but was unfortunately unsuccessful. It is worth pointing out that he already holds the World Record, having also made history last year with a 176-kilogram (388-pound) Clean & Jerk.

  • Unsuccessful — 168 kilograms (370.4 pounds)
  • 172 kilograms (379.2 pounds)
  • Unsuccessful — 178 kilograms (392.4 pounds)

Total — 298 kilograms (657 pounds)
