A viral video showing what appears to be a transgender individual masturbating inside the women’s restroom at a Planet Fitness in Northern California has reignited concerns about safety and privacy in gym locker rooms.
The footage, originally posted to TikTok in May 2024 by Planet Fitness member Grace “Gracie” Hutson, recently resurfaced and exploded across social media. The incident took place at the chain’s Concord, California location, just outside San Francisco.
The Incident

The clip shows a shadow beneath a bathroom stall door that appears to depict someone performing a sexual act. In a follow-up TikTok video posted Sunday, Hutson explained how the situation unfolded while she was using the women’s restroom.
“I go out to wash my hands, and the shower stops, and this dude comes out,” she said. “Literally, straight up dude, tall and just masculine, and he’s naked and wrapped in a towel.”
According to Hutson, the individual then walked into the changing area. When she returned to the restroom a short time later, she noticed the shadow under the stall door.
“I turn back around, and I see that shadow, and I’m just like, ‘Okay, there’s no way. Maybe I’m just being delusional,'” she recalled. “I go back out into the gym, and about 10 to 15 minutes later, I come back into the bathroom, and he’s still doing that. The shadow is still going.”

Hutson said she was alone in the locker room both times and decided to start recording because she feared no one would believe her.
“I’m just glad it wasn’t a minor that was in there,” she said. “I was really uncomfortable.”

Response From Staff
After capturing the video, Hutson said she immediately notified the front desk. She described the employees as young and unsure how to respond.
“They seem pretty young, and it’s an odd situation,” she explained. “They just didn’t really seem like they knew what to do.”
The video shows Planet Fitness staff members following her into the restroom and knocking on the stall door. Hutson said their response was minimal.
“They kind of just stood there and looked at him. They didn’t really do much at all,” she said.
Hutson’s boyfriend eventually confronted the individual verbally.
“You’re making my girlfriend uncomfortable,” she recalled him saying. “You’re a weirdo.”
According to Hutson, the person inside the stall insisted they were transgender and claimed they were only drying off. She was not convinced.
“You could tell just by the way he was acting, he is guilty,” she claimed.
In a later video, Hutson made her position clear.
“At the end of the day, whether you’re transgender or not, you should not be stroking your sh*t in the women’s bathroom,” she said. “Okay, that’s definitely some weirdo sh*t.”
Hutson admitted she now wishes she had involved law enforcement.
“I was just really uncomfortable and, honestly, I kind of just wanted to say my piece and get the f**k out of there,” she explained. “Looking back, I do have regrets, like I should have done more. I should have called the cops.”
She said she hesitated because she feared being labeled transphobic.
“I thought about it, but I was like there’s no way anything is gonna come of this. People are just gonna say I’m transphobic,” she said.
According to Hutson, the gym’s owner called her the next day.
“The owner of Planet Fitness called me and just kind of commended me for doing what I did,” she said. “He said I was really brave and apologized. That’s pretty much all that happened. There were no charges pressed.”
@borderlinebimbo_ #stitch with @gracie 𖣂 to sum it up nothing really ended up happening i was uncomfortable but also afraid to get cops involved at the time this was at the PF in Concord CA
Planet Fitness Policy And Ongoing Debate
California law allows individuals to use restrooms and locker rooms that align with their gender identity. Planet Fitness has adopted a similar gender identity policy across its locations.
According to the company’s website, “all members, including transgender members, may use Planet Fitness locker room facilities, bathrooms, showers, and all other facilities/programs separated by sex based on their self-reported gender identity.”
The policy, however, does not publicly address how alleged sexual misconduct in locker rooms should be handled or whether such incidents trigger automatic bans or law enforcement involvement.
Both the New York Post and OutKick reported that Planet Fitness did not respond to requests for comment on Hutson’s allegations.
The Case Of Tish Hyman
The viral Planet Fitness clip has also drawn reaction from Grammy-nominated singer Tish Hyman, who previously went viral after being removed from a Gold’s Gym (now EōS Fitness) in Los Angeles following a confrontation with a trans-identifying individual in the women’s locker room.
Hyman, who has publicly advocated for keeping women-only spaces reserved for biological females, shared the Planet Fitness video on social media and used it to highlight her concerns.
“When you see me speak with passion, this is why,” she wrote. “Women and girls deserve truth, safety, and protection, not confusion, not denial, not lies dressed up as compassion.”
“Sex is real. Boundaries matter. Reality matters. Enough with pretending otherwise,” Hyman continued. “This isn’t hate. This is care. This is love. This is standing up.”
Hyman previously clashed with Alexis Black, a trans-identifying individual she accused of inappropriate behavior in the women’s locker room. Black has denied those allegations. Court records show that Black, formerly known as Grant Freeman, pleaded guilty in 2022 to domestic violence charges involving his then-wife, which left her with serious injuries.
As of now, Planet Fitness has not publicly confirmed whether any disciplinary action was taken against the individual Hutson filmed at the Concord location. The video continues to fuel an already heated national debate over how gyms and public facilities should balance gender identity policies with privacy and safety concerns in women-only spaces.
