Jeff Cavaliere is taking a closer look at one of the fittest men in Hollywood. On February 17, 2025, ATHLEAN-X founder Cavaliere reviewed the diet and training principles employed by celebrity Mark Wahlberg.
Mark Wahlberg has carved out a gigantic following thanks to a multi-faceted approach to fitness, acting, and wellness. He’s one of the most successful actors and known for his versatility both on and off the screen. Year-round, he sports an incredibly lean and ripped physique, continuing to redefine the standards on display in Hollywood.
At 52 years old, Wahlberg no longer trains seven days a week like he once did. Nevertheless, he still attacks workouts with intensity but with that, he has to focus on recovery efforts as well. Today, fitness coach Jeff Cavaliere took a closer look at how Wahlberg fuels his body by dissecting his diet.
Fitness Coach Jeff Cavaliere Reviews the Diet/Training of Actor Mark Wahlberg
In a recent YouTube video, Cavaliere shined a light on many of the healthy dieting practices utilized by Wahlberg. He agreed with Wahlberg on the importance of starting the day with plenty of water because you don’t want to get play catch up with dehydration.

“Music to my ears right off the bat. Gets up, drinks water. Everyday. The important thing that I think you should do guys is adopt a routine and getting up and first thing doing, maybe pee first, then drink water.
I drink two glasses of water and the reason why is we can’t get behind on hydration and then play catch up all day long.”
As for Wahlberg’s use of green drinks, Cavaliere got behind that too, revealing that he consumes one daily as an ‘insurance policy.’
“Greens drinks is really as an insurance policy. So if you’re taking your vitamins, you’re getting more micronutrients you’re getting things you might be overlooking somewhere else. What’s the harm in green juice? I actually think they are beneficial.
I use one myself. I don’t disagree with the use of that.”
Examining his diet, Cavaliere believes Wahlberg eats chicken breasts and thighs at the same time because they offer different leanness and fat contents.
“So, the first thing is he says chicken breast, chicken thighs,” he shares. “A lot of times people in the same way that they will mix and match egg whites and full eggs for the yolk, they might do that with chicken as well so that there is some leaner chicken and the chicken thighs have a little bit of extra fat. Knowing that the extra fat is going to help, I think that might be why he does that.”
In addition, he agreed with Wahlberg consuming multiple berries during a meal instead of just having one kind.
“Then he has a bunch of different berries. Why stop at one berry? If you’ve got access to a lot of berries, more berries taste better than one berry.”
Cavaliere emphasized that there is nothing wrong with eating starchy carbohydrates even though they weren’t present in Wahlberg’s diet.
“I didn’t hear any more sweet potatoes here. I didn’t hear those, I didn’t hear pasta, I didn’t hear rice. I didn’t hear starchy carbohydrates.
I don’t believe having starchy carbohydrates is something you can’t do and attain leanness. It’s something I’ve done now for my entire life.”
He also examined his training split, likening it to an upper, lower, anterior, posterior push pull pattern.
“What I’m imagining him describing here is an upper, lower split but with an anterior posterior or push, pull focus. So let’s say upper push, lower posterior chain like glutes and hamstrings. Upper pull, then a day off, then lower anterior, the quads, then go back to upper push,” he shared.
Unlike Wahlberg, Cavaliere stressed that fasting isn’t a fitness fad as the Hollywood star suggested.
“I don’t know if I’d throw fasting into a fad. I think he’s sort of lumping it in with the rest of the stuff but fasting can be very effective for people who are grazers who have body fat accumulation and weight issues because they graze all day long. Having a clock that restricts you to a certain window of eating can be a very helpful tool to prevent that from happening.”
While the dieting of Wahlberg and Cavaliere differ, there’s certainly something to be said for how they approach hydration and training. Overall, Cavaliere supported most of Wahlberg’s dietary options but stressed to his audience that you don’t have to avoid starchy carbs to stay lean.
