Jurins Kengamu is an incredible powerlifter without a doubt, but he was definitely overlooked when it came to his most recent appearance. Namely, he participated in the 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which are taking place on June 15-23, in Druskininkai, Lithuania. The top pick for the 83-kilogram weight class, in the opinion of many, was Russel Orhii. However, Jurins pulled off an upset and shocked the community with an 845-kilogram (1,862.9-pound) Raw Total World Record, which secured him a gold medal.

Jurins Kengamu’s Full Performance

Jurins Kengamu came into the 2024 IPF World Championships weighing 82.65 kilograms (182.2 pounds), exactly the same as Russel Orhii. He then put up a performance of a lifetime, successfully completing all attempts, setting three new Competition PRs, and winning the competition.

Squat

Jurins Kengamu built up to a 310-kilogram (683.4-pound), which was almost equal to his Competition PR. However, despite his incredible performance, Russel Orhii still got a decent lead with a 311-kilogram (685.6-pound) squat. Orhii nearly extended that lead by another 7 kilograms (15.4 pounds), but his final attempt was overturned.

  • 290 kilograms (639.3 pounds)
  • 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds)
  • 310 kilograms (683.4 pounds)

Bench Press

Moving onto the bench press, Jurins Kengamu managed to display some progress, setting a new Competition PR of 185 kilograms (407.9 pounds). Unfortunately for him, Russel Orhii pressed even more weight, extending his overall lead to 9.5 kilograms (20.9 pounds).

Deadlift

Going into the deadlifts, everything seemed to go Russel Orhii’s way, as both men had similar results on the deadlifts in prior competitions. However, Jurins Kengamu was ready to shock Orhii and the remainder of the community with an unbelievable improvement in this event.

In both of the first two attempts Jurins managed to deadlift more weight than Orhii. However, once Russel locked out 335 kilograms (738.5 pounds) for his final attempt, it looked like a very difficult task for Jurins.

However, Kengamu then loaded 350 kilograms (771.6 pounds) for his final attempt, 15 kilograms (33 pounds) more than he has ever lifted in competitions. Regardless, Jurins made the deadlift look smooth and easy. So, he became the World Champion and set a Total World Record.

  • 317.5 kilograms (700 pounds)
  • 332.5 kilograms (733 pounds)
  • 350 kilograms (771.6 pounds) — Competition PR

Total — 845 kilograms (1,862.9 pounds) — U83KG IPF World Record & Competition PR

*Delaney Wallace held the previous U83KG Raw Total IPF World Record of 842.5-kg (1,857.4-lb), which he set at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.

Interestingly, Russel Orhii also broke the U83KG IPF Total World Record, but his joy lasted less than a few minutes. Kengamu was the reason for that, as he broke the record by an even larger margin in the very next attempt.
