Nick Jonas Shares His Diet & Go-To ‘On The Road’ Workout Using Only Dumbbells
In a recent YouTube video, Nick Jonas opened up about how he maintains his stunning physique while on the road. He shared his pre-workout meal plan, which he revealed varies each day depending on how he’s feeling.
“I really just try to listen to my body and go from there. I usually like to have peanut butter, a fruit of some kind before the workout, a little bit of coffee which is kinda unusual but a little bit of coffee. Hit the workout. Then after, a lot of protein.”
“So in the morning, some good eggs, turkey bacon paired with some wheat toast or something. I think carbs are also an important part of the equation, especially as a diabetic and knowing when to use them and how to use them is important.”

Next, Nick Jonas provided fans with his current workout regimen. He explained that most of the time he is limited to a hotel gym where he has to adapt his workout to what is available, which is mostly dumbbells. The training routine that Jonas uses is one that fitness coach Matt Blank gave him years ago that he incorporates while on the road.
“A lot of times I’m in a hotel gym and kinda limited weights and things to work with but you can always pretty much depend on there being some dumbbells so I do this workout that one of my trainers Matt Blank gave me a couple years ago and it really helps when I’m on the road.”
“I can do it anywhere. You can do it with dumbbells too, you just increase the number of reps and the intensity and that is what I am going to show you today. So, it’s a basic dumbbell complex.”
Jonas’ routine consists of five different exercises that he performs with no rest in between. He then takes a 70-second rest before repeating it five times.
“It’s pretty simple. It is five different exercises with no rest in between and then you take 70 second rest and repeat this five times.”
Nick Jonas starts the workout off with a form of cardio to get the heart rate going usually doing either jump roping or walking/jogging.
“What I usually do is something to get my heart rate going. Jump rope 100 times, do that three times with 60 seconds in between or I’ll walk on the treadmill for a little bit or eve do a light jog. Anything to get the heart rate going, get your body feeling good and then I’ll jump into this and at the end of this, what I’ll do is set the treadmill at an incline and do anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes just walking. It is 8 reps every time.”
Push-Ups
Nick Jonas performs simple push-ups that he does for eight reps before moving straight into the next exercise.
“Starting with the push-ups. Alright so it is eight push-ups nothing fancy about these. I’m just driving through the floor and back up.”
Single-Leg Romanian Deadlifts
For the single-leg Romanian deadlifts, Jonas emphasizes the importance of keeping the muscles under tension for as long as possible.
“Then, we’re straight into RDLs, weighted RDLs. So, trying to keep the hips perfectly still. It’s less about speed of the motion, just time under tension. So do that on both legs, eight a side.”
Hammer Curls to Shoulder Press
With this exercise, Nick Jonas has combined two movements, hammer curls, and shoulder presses, to increase the intensity.
“Then we’re to hammer curl shoulder press. Just combining these two really gets a nice burn going. Do this eight times.”
Weighted Squats
Nick Jonas continues with his simple training that includes weighted squats.
“After you finish that (hammer curl to shoulder press) straight into weighted squats. You can rest the dumbbells on your shoulder, just sit back into it. It’s that simple. We’ve all done it before.”
Plank Row
Finally, Jonas finishes the workout with plank rows that he executes eight times with each arm, ensuring he keeps his hips as still as possible.
“The last thing, which again all of this is about protecting your body, so what I do is modify this to not put any tension on my palm and I’ll just place my hand on the floor, keep my hips still, and just pull them through towards the hip and that is it.”
After going through the first set of movements, Nick Jonas reminds fans to repeat them five times and to finish it off with some cardio and even an ab workout if desired.
“Do that five times, you can throw in an ab or core workout in there afterwards if you want and then hit the treadmill and you’re done.”
Nick Jonas isn’t the only Hollywood star to reveal their diet and workout regimen. ‘Reacher’ actor Alan Ritchson gave fans an inside look at his fridge and home gym. Even though Ritchson indulges in his favorite snack, cookie dough, he keeps a rather strict and low-carb meal plan that his lovely wife helps him with. As for the home gym, Ritchson has an intense full-body workout that he uses to maintain his rock-hard abs.
Nick Jonas continues to manage his health and fitness with simple diets and exercise routines. His attention to detail and hard work shine during his training sessions.
