Body image insecurities have become a real problem in today’s society, as we often raise our standards too high due to social media and thus become too harsh on ourselves. This especially affects young girls, who see perfect bodies everywhere they look and strive to look like that as well. The perfect body concept is not one-size-fits-all, since every body is unique in some way. This was recently demonstrated by Laura Horvath, who won the 2023 CrossFit Games and inspired young women and girls all over the world.

Having won CrossFit’s most prestigious competition, Laura Horvath officially claimed the title of Fittest Woman On Earth. Therefore, many women and girls began looking up to her, which resulted in a great deal of responsibility for her. Laura Horvath still remained composed and made sure to use her stage to send a powerful message.

“I’m just very happy that me and my body can do this. So, I am not looking at the new Barbie movie and saying, ‘Oh, I want to look like that’

I want to look like what I look like. I just want to prove that my body, whatever it looks like, can do these amazing things, move things from A to B, run fast, and lift heavy.

I’m very excited that little girls and teenagers can look up to all these amazing girls that are here (2023 CrossFit Games).

Our bodies are not us, we are what’s inside, and it is amazing what our bodies can do if you put the work in.”

However, Laura Horvath is inspirational in more ways than one, since she can also be a role model for perseverance, discipline, and many other things. While she is now in the spotlight, Laura had to sacrifice a lot to reach this point. Over the years, she has tried to win the CrossFit Games title many times, but has always fallen short.

Laura Horvath placed second at both the 2018 and 2021 CrossFit Games, which is a great achievement, but coming so close and not taking first would force many athletes to stop believing in themselves. However, Laura always had full belief in herself and her body, which paid off this year.

Even during the 2023 CrossFit Games, Laura Horvath did not have an easy path to victory, since she was sitting in second place at the end of day three. However, she came into the final day ready to give everything and won two out of three events to overtake Emma Lawson for first place overall.
