The 2023 Strongman Champions League England took place on August 12, 2023, in Gloucester. It gathered twelve elite Strongmen from all around the world to compete against one another. However, England’s own Shane Flowers made some fans happy by winning the competition on practically home turf. He won the competition in a very impressive manner, consistently placing in the top five throughout all five events.

Shane Flowers’ victory at the 2023 Strongman Champions League England marked the first International victory in his career, making the gold medal even more special.

The second place went to Louis Jack who also had an incredible performance, but a poor performance in the Viking Walk event cost him massive points.

Kane Francis took the bronze medal, finishing just half a point behind Louis Jack. Kane was in the lead throughout the majority of the competition, but dropped down on the final two events.

Event One — Overhead Medley

The first event of the 2023 Strongman Champions League England was the Overhead Medley and it consisted of three portions. The first task was to lift a 150-kilogram (330.7-pound) Log, after which they moved on to a 140-kilogram (308.6-pound) Axle press. If an athlete completed those two, they then moved on to the 105-kilogram (231.5-pound) Dumbbell Press, which they attempted to lift for as many reps as possible.

Only two men completed more than one rep on the dumbbell, but they ended up tying for first place. Those were Kane Francis and Dawid Pakulski.

An additional three men completed one rep on the dumbbell each, making for a third-place tie between Flowers, Osborn, and Cotton. The remainder of the roster could not lift the dumbbell after their first two reps on the Log and Axle.

  • Kane Francis — 4 reps (Tied-First)
  • Dawid Pakulski — 4 reps (Tied-First)
  • Louis Jack — 3 reps (Tied-Third)
  • Shane Flowers — 3 reps (Tied-Third)
  • Jack Osborn — 3 reps (Tied-Third)
  • Tyler Cotton — 2 in 15.46 seconds
  • Andrea Invernizzi — 2 in 20.25 seconds
  • Evans Aryee — 2 in 20.52 seconds
  • George Sulaiman — 2 in 26.68 seconds
  • Sebastian Kurek — 2 in 35.97 seconds
  • Ervin Toots — 2 in 41.80 seconds
  • Sean O’Hagan — No lift

Event Two — Deadlift Ladder

The next test of strength at the 2023 Strongman Champions League England competition challenged athletes with performing four progressively heavier deadlifts as quickly as possible. The weight of the deadlifts ranged from 270 kilograms (595.2 pounds) to 380 kilograms (837.8 pounds).

It was clear from the start that this was an incredibly heavy set of deadlifts, but no one would have predicted that only one man would lock out all four. That man was Evans Aryee, as he finished all four deadlifts in 45.03 seconds. Sulaiman and Francis took second and third, being the fastest to lock out three deadlifts.

  • Evans Aryee — 4 in 45.03 s
  • George Sulaiman — 3 in 15.05 s
  • Kane Francis — 3 in 15.05 s
  • Louis Jack — 3 in 16.27 s
  • Shane Flowers — 3 in 16.54 s
  • Tyler Cotton— 3 in 30.61 s
  • Jack Osborn — 3 in 37.17 s
  • Andrea Invernizzi — 3 in 45.60 s
  • Ervin Toots — 3 in 50.49 s
  • Dawid Pakulski — 2 in 7.17 s
  • Sebastian Kurek — 1 in 9.64 s
  • Sean O’Hagan — 1 in 3.52 s

Event three — Viking Walk

The third event of the 2023 Strongman Champions League England displayed a challenge which could date back multiple centuries, as the athletes had to carry a 300-kilogram (661.4-pound) log on their shoulders and walk as far as possible.

Dawid Pakulski astounded everyone by making the humongous log carry on his shoulder look as it posed no difficulty for him. He ended up crossing 45 meters, significantly more than any of the remaining 11 competitors was able to do.

Kane Francis took second place after he dropped the log on the 37.6-meter mark, narrowly outperforming Shane Flowers who took third with just 0.6 meters less.

  • Dawid Pakulski — 45 meters
  • Kane Francis — 37.6 meters
  • Shane Flowers — 37 meters
  • Jack Osborn— 36.15 meters
  • Tyler Cotton— 30 meters (Tied-Fifth)
  • Sebastian Kurek — 30 meters (Tied-Fifth)
  • Evans Aryee — 28.6 meters
  • Louis Jack — 26.4 meters
  • Andrea Invernizzi — 26.35 meters
  • Ervin Toots — 22 meters (Tied-10th)
  • George Sulaiman — 22 meters (Tied-10th)
  • Sean O’Hagan — No lift

Event Four — Bag Over Bar

The penultimate event was the Bag Over Bar, where athletes were presented with five sandbags increasing in weight from 22 kilograms (48.5 pounds) to 30 kilograms (66.2 pounds). These sandbags were not too heavy for the majority of competitors, so the event was more about speed instead of power.

Only fractions of a second separated the top two finishers, with Louis Jack completing his final sandbag just 0.32 seconds before Shane Flowers.

A similar battle ensued for third place as well, which saw Dawid Pakulski finish with a time of 24.61 seconds and Ervin Toots just 0.66 seconds behind him.

  • Louis Jack — 5 in 15.45 s
  • Shane Flowers — 5 in 15.77 s
  • Dawid Pakulski — 5 in 24.61 s
  • Ervin Toots — 5 in 25.27 s
  • Evans Aryee — 5 in 26.03 s
  • Tyler Cotton— 5 in 35.69 s
  • Sebastian Kurek — 5 in 38.39 s
  • Kane Francis — 4 in 18.92 s
  • Jack Osborn— 4 in 19.59 s
  • Andrea Invernizzi — 4 in 37.19 s
  • George Sulaiman — 3 in 14.11 s
  • Sean O’Hagan — 3 in 37.84 s

Event Five — Atlas Stones

Atlas Stones were used to wrap up the 2023 Strongman Champions League England competition, with the five implements ranging from 100 kilograms (220.5 pounds) to 180 kilograms (396.8 pounds). The athletes gave their all to lift and load the stones onto their platforms in as short a time as possible.

Going into the final event, three men eyed the title, but knew that this was the most crucial event of the entire competition. However, Shane Flowers thrived under pressure and crushed everyone on the Atlas Stones. His time of 18.49 seconds would rival even the greatest stone lifters in the world, so it was enough to secure him max points and the title overall.

Louis Jack was the second man to load all five stones, finishing in a time of 21.24 seconds and officially claiming the silver medal at the 2023 Strongman Champions League England. Ervin Toots placed third in the Atlas Stones, but it did not do too much good for him on the overall leaderboards as he finished in eight.

  • Shane Flowers — 5 in 18.49 s
  • Louis Jack — 5 in 21.24 s
  • Ervin Toots — 5 in 22.11 s
  • Evans Aryee — 5 in 23.42 s
  • Kane Francis — 5 in 29.64 s
  • Jack Osborn— 5 in 37.53 s
  • Dawid Pakulski — 4 in 12.55 s
  • Sebastian Kurek — 4 in 28.24 s
  • Andrea Invernizzi — 4 in 45.29 s
  • Sean O’Hagan — 3 in 59.51 s
  • Tyler Cotton— Withdrew
  • George Sulaiman — Withdrew
