The 2024 OSG (Official Strongman Games) European Championships took place on August 17-18 in York, England. They gathered countless elite Strongmen and Strongwomen athletes across a plethora of weight and age classes. However, the Open division was the most interesting one, seeing Roman Grekov and Rebecca Roberts stand atop the podium.

Event Recap

Event One — Deadlift

The first event of the 2024 OSG European Championships tasked the athletes with performing an Axle deadlift for as many reps as possible. The weight for the men was 320 kilograms, while the women lifted 230 kilograms.

Oleg Pylypiak was the best deadlifter among men, being the only one to complete double digits. He averaged a rep every couple of seconds, ultimately managing to lock out 10 repetitions.

On the other hand, the women’s division was conquered by Katie Smith, who managed to lock out eight repetitions. Rebecca Robertz was close to catching up to her, but fell short with seven reps.

Event Two — Farmer’s Walk

The second event in the competition saw the athletes pick up and carry two Farmer’s Walk implements. For men, the implements weighed 140 kilograms, while the women carried 110 kilograms. Both had to cross a distance of 32 meters in the span of 60 seconds.

Ryan Bennett’s combination of grip strength and quickness allowed him to complete the event in 19.68 seconds, which also secured him the victory. No one else finished in less than 20 seconds.

Rebecca Roberts was the only athlete among the women who managed to carry the implements the whole way. So, the time needed to complete the event was irrelevant, seeing that no other woman crossed the finish line.

Men

  • Ryan Bennett — 19.68 seconds
  • Roman Grekov — 21.50 seconds

  • Aisling Cunningham — 3.25 meters

Event Three — Sandbag Over Bar

The third event of the 2024 OSG European Championships was the Sandbag Over Bar. So, both women and men had to lift a huge sandbag over a bar for as many reps as possible. The weight of the bag was 150 and 100 kilograms for men and women, respectively.

A tremendous battle took place in the men’s division, as three men who were looking to take the win were within just one rep of each other. Ultimately, Joachim Kvick managed to get the winning edge with his 11th repetition.

The women’s division was even more tense, as five women were all within just one rep. There, Rebecca Roberts and Katie Smith ended up in a tie for first place with 8 reps each.

Men

  • Joachim Kvick — 11 reps
  • Ben Glasscock — 10 reps

Event Four — Dumbbell Press

The penultimate event of the 2024 OSG European Championships was the Dumbbell Press. Men had to lift a 100-kilogram implement, while women faced a 60-kilogram dumbbell. The goal was to lock out as many reps as possible.

Roman Grekov and Oleg Pylypiak both ended up locking out eight reps with the huge dumbbell, impressing the crowd with eight reps and sharing the top spot. The rest of the competitors were not even close to them, as the third-place finisher locked out three reps less than them.

The dumbbell was too heavy for seven out of nine women competing, meaning that only two women managed to get a rep on the board. The winner of the event was clear, as Donna Moore locked out five reps, compared to Rebecca Roberts’ single rep.

Men

  • Roman Grekov — 8 reps
  • Oleg Pylypiak — 8 reps

Event Five — Loading Race

Wrapping up the competition, the athletes took on a difficult Loading Race. They had to pick up, carry for 20 meters, and then load a Tire, Keg, and a Sack in the shortest time possible.

All of the men finished the entire event, and the winner was decided by just a fraction of a second. William Relf was the one who held the top spot on the leaderboards, crossing the finish line in 34.34 seconds. However, three other athletes were within two seconds of his result.

Rebecca Roberts and Donna Moore found themselves in an epic battle, finishing the event in 47 and 48 seconds, respectively. Roberts was the one who won the event, beating Moore by less than two seconds.

  • William Relf — 3 in 34.34 s
