IFBB Men’s Physique Pro Shawn Labega goes under the Leg Amputation recently. Labega was likely to be one of the front-runners coming into the 2018 Arnold Classic in Men’s Physique division!
According to the reports, while in preparation for the 2018 Arnold Classic Shawn Lebega, suffered a blot clot in his right calve. The surgeon removed a blood clot, but even with nerve replacement from his thigh to ankle and calve complications including poor circulation have resulted in the need to amputate his leg from the knee down. This all occurring only a few weeks out from when he would have been competing on the Arnold Classic stage. Labega stated:
“I’ll be back on stage Arnold 2019. I don’t quit or give up. Wasn’t built that way. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead of me.”
In another social media post, Labega explains:
Well people wanted to know where I’ve been . Am I ok. Here it is. Blood clot was found in my calve. Something which I never had ?????. Dr performed Surgery to remove the blood clot from my leg n they did a good job. I also lost circulation to my foot which they were trying to get back. As of yesterday all nerves in my foot died n now my foot is ice cold. Been on emotional rollercoaster of not knowing what is wrong . As of today it’s offical. I’m loosing my right leg from knee down . God is good we caught the blood clot to save my life . We tried to sav3 the leg best we can. We took nerves from my thigh to put in ankle n calves which seems to work up until last nite . Things went bad. As of next week they will amputate. Then I can start the next chapter in my life. I’ll b back on stage Arnold 2019. I don’t quit or give up. Wasn’t built that way. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead of me. I’m not mad or sad actually happy bc life moves on . Coming back next year even stronger. My new name is ifbbproroboticlabega. This is just a bump in the road . Ty all who was concern. I actually broke my phone to those who reached out to me. Dm me I’ll give u my number. I’m in good spirits just ready to move forward. Lebega earned his pro status at the 2013 Team Universe and competed in numerous pro shows taking the masters title at the 2017 IFBB Karina Nascimento Pro, third place at IFBB Baltimore Grand Prix 2017 along with competing in the New York Pro & Pittsburgh Pro.

“Hey everyone it’s been one week since coming home and let me tell life has changed. Getting use to one leg has been just a little bit challenging. Didn’t expect anything easy or given to me. I use the walker to get around. I feel more comfy with them . Rather than crutches. Went to my first check up and seems like the cut is healing well. Wanted everyone to c what it looks like and my progress. can’t wait to hit the gym. But I need to remember one day at a time. Can’t wait for my leg to come in life is God’s God is good . Wouldn’t have my life any other way . Love my life n the people who are in it..”
Shawn Lebega is now out of the Arnold Classic 2018 lineup, but don’t count him out. Posting positively throughout this ordeal that began last week Shawn is eager to embrace the challenges ahead.
