Tia-Clair Toomey is the winningest Individual in the history of CrossFit Games with a total of six “Fittest Woman On Earth” titles to her name. So, having not been able to compete for over a year, many of her fans were eager to see her get back on the field. Well, Tia-Clair Toomey’s comeback came at the 2023 Rogue Invitational CrossFit, which took place from October 26-29 at the Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock, Texas. So, following the competition, Tia-Clair decided to reveal her thoughts about the competition in a YouTube video.

Tia-Clair Toomey took a long break due to pregnancy with her first child. So, after giving birth a few months ago, she immediately began preparing for the 2023 Rogue CrossFit Invitational. However, she did not have much time to prepare. So, the expectations were not high. Still, Tia-Clair performed extremely well and finished in second place. The only person she lost to was Laura Horvath, who managed to win her second consecutive title.

Tia-Clair Toomey’s Rogue Invitational Recap

Tia-Clair Toomey mostly focused on event recaps from the final two days, as well as overall impressions from the competition. She first pointed out the weather predicaments which caused some delays and addressed Saturday’s first workout, which she happened to win.

“Saturday, at this point of the weekend I felt like we’d been competing for a whole month… We started off with the 10th Inning and I knew that it was a great workout.”

Tia-Clair Toomey then talked about her lowest placing workout of the competition, the Duel. She was eliminated in the second round and ended up taking 12th place, thus losing out on some valuable points.

“I didn’t fumble with anything, I just wasn’t sharp enough. I wasn’t fast enough… To fall short of that was a huge disappointment and it cost me the win at the end of the day… It was such a fun fast event and I wish I was able to do a few more rounds of it.”

Another workout that was particularly interesting for Tia-Clair Toomey was the Deadlift for max weight. It was previously one of the workouts that suited her well, but her recent pregnancy forced her to be more careful. This is also the reason why Tia-Clair opted not to use a lifting belt, as she did not want to put her core under too much pressure.

“Normally the deadlifts are very good for me… I’m very strong with my deadlifts, but I haven’t gone that heavy since having Willow and being pregnant… It is still taking some time for my body to get back to normal.”

Tia-Clair Toomey revealed that she had a chance of winning the 2023 Rogue Invitational CrossFit title, but was still satisfied with her silver medal. She is also excited for the 2024 CrossFit Season, since a few more months of training should allow her to come into competitions in an even better shape.

“I believed that I could win if I really executed everything to the best of my abilities, stuck to my game plan, and stayed focused. I also didn’t really know what I was capable of.

‘I am going against incredible athletes, the best in the world, not being on the competition floor for over 12 months, not able to train to the full capacity of what I usually would…

I fell short of winning the competition, but I still feel like I came away with such a huge win, which sets me up for a really great next season. I far exceeded my expectations.”

Tia-Clair Toomey won the first three editions of the Rogue Invitational CrossFit (2019-2021), but couldn’t not compete in 2022 due to pregnancy. She came back this year in hopes of reclaiming her title, but fell just short of it. However, her second place finish with just a few months of training is an achievement of immeasurable success. So, Tia-Clair Toomey will be a huge threat for all major titles in the 2024 CrossFit Season.
