Sonita Muluh scored a gigantic 295-kilogram (650.4-pound) raw squat PR in training, which also marked an Unofficial All-Time Squat World Record in the women’s division. The lift was shared on Sonita’s Instagram page on December 27th, meaning that it was one of her final heavy sessions of the year and that she made the most of it. Moreover, Sonita is entering uncharted territory and is nearing quite a remarkable milestone.

Since Sonita Muluh decided to perform her 295-kilogram (650.4-pound) squat in a raw manner, the only pieces of equipment that she was allowed to use were a lifting belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps. Sonita admitted that the walkout was a bit challenging for her, and that she felt a bit unstable. This is, however, completely normal, since she has never squatted that much weight before. The squat itself looked very decent, as Sonita did not struggle too much at any point.

The current All-Time Raw Squat World Record across all women’s weight classes stands at 285.5 kilograms (849.9 pounds), and the person who holds it is Sonita Muluh. She set the record at the 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships back in June, but has progressed a lot since then.

Sonita Muluh is actively preparing for the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, which is one of the greatest competitions in the world currently. It will take place on February 10th in Sheffield, UK, gathering 12 of the best IPF powerlifters from both the male and female divisions. It is also set to feature the highest prize purse in the history of powerlifting, with it coming out to £445,000 (~$569,057).

“This is a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity and I want to make the best out of it,” wrote Sonita.

Sonita Muluh had a great 2023, having competed four times across the year, becoming an EPF European Champion while also claiming the silver medal at the IPF World Championships. Having also set the Raw Squat World Record, the past 12 months have been the best she has had in her career so far.

Sonita Muluh is currently 27-years-old and has been competing for nearly four years in total. During that timeframe, Sonita has taken part in 14 full-power sanctioned competitions overall and won 10 of them. She still has some more goals to fulfill, such as improving her placement at the World Championships and claiming the gold.

With just six weeks left until the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, it seems very likely that Sonita Muluh will crush the Squat World Record. Moreover, if she does manage to make some more progress, Sonita could become the first woman in the history of powerlifting to officially squat 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds) raw.
