Yeison Lopez and Karlos Nasar displayed one of the greatest battles that the 2024 IWF World Cup has seen, as they went head-to-head in the snatch event. The men competed in the U89KG weight class, which took place on April 6th, in Phuket, Thailand. Both men managed to exceed the former World Record, but Yeison Lopez got the better of Nasar with a huge 182-kilogram (401.2-pound) snatch.
Yeison Lopez vs Karlos Nasar — Snatch Battle
Karlos Nasar was the first man to lift, opening up his session with a 170-kilogram (374.8-pound) Snatch. However, Yeison Lopez was a bit more confident, having snatched 175 kilograms (385.8 pounds) for his first attempt.
Consequently, Karlos Nasar looked to outperform Lopez, thus loading 176 kilograms (388 pounds) for his second attempt of the day. On the other hand, Yeison immediately jumped to 181 kilograms (399 pounds) with the goal of breaking the World Record. However, he was not able to lift it successfully. So, with one attempt left for both men, Nasar was in the lead.
Karlos Nasar then decided to do what Lopez could not, loading 181 kilograms (399 pounds) for his third attempt. It did not pose many problems for him, as he easily lifted it over his head, thus setting a new U89KG World Record.
However, the battle wasn’t done yet. Although the situation did not look good for Yeison Lopez, seeing that he missed his second attempt, he still remained focused and walked out for an even heavier third attempt of 182 kilograms (401.2 pounds). Surprisingly, Yeison made this snatch look as easy as a warm-up, thus crushing Nasar’s dream and taking the U89KG Snatch World Record.
