Alexis Jones made her IPF debut at the recent 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which took place on June 15-23, in Druskininkai, Lithuania. Despite it being her first time on this stage, Alexis proved that she belongs with other elite athletes from around the world and is capable of battling for the title. Especially when it comes to the bench press event, as she set a new 167-kilogram (368.2-pound) +84KG Raw IPF World Record in this event.

Alexis Jones was involved in one of the best bench press battles of the competition, as she went head-to-head against the former World Record holder, Amelie Mierger. Interestingly, both women opened up with a 150-kilogram (330.7-pound) press, showing just how close their abilities are.

Moving onto the second attempt, Aelxis Jones decided to bench press 160 kilograms (352.7 pounds), which did not pose a challenge for her. On the other hand, her rival, Mierger, lifted 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) more for her second attempt, getting a slight lead with one attempt left.

However, Mierger chose 166.5 kilograms (367.1 pounds) for her final attempt, with which she exceeded the World Record at the time. Unfortunately for the French athlete, Alexis Jones picked 167 kilograms (368.2 pounds) for her third attempt. As expected, Jones made easy work of the task, displaying impeccable technique and range of motion. In turn, Alexis officially secured the +84KG IPF World Record.

*Amelie Mierger held the previous +84KG Raw Bench Press IPF World Record of 165-kg (363.8-lb), which she set at the 2024 EPF European Open Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Alexis Jones’ Full Performance

Alexis Jones executed her plan perfectly, successfully completing all nine of the attempts she planned. Ultimately, she found herself in a two-way tie for the silver medal overall with Brittany Schlater. So, under the rules of tiebreakers, the deciding factor was the bodyweight of the athletes. In other words, the athlete with the lower bodyweight gained an advantage. Unfortunately for Alexis, she had to settle for third place since Schlater was almost 11 kilograms (24.3 pounds) lighter than her.

Squat

  • 245 kilograms (540.1 pounds)
  • 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds)

Alexis Jones has been dominating the USAPL for the past few years, and this year she decided to move to the International Powerlifting Federation, along with the likes of Russel Orhii, Austin Perkins, and others. It seems that it was the right decision, as she is an incredible addition to the +84KG weight class.

Alexis Jones now has 17 sanctioned powerlifting appearances to her name, along with 13 victories. That includes both the USAPL and AMP Nationals. The new +84KG IPF Bench Press World Record is also one of her greatest achievements so far. However, it is likely that Alexis will find even more success in the upcoming years at the IPF.
