“You want capped delts? Well then you better have a good lateral raise. Here are some tips to perfect your lateral raise.”
Dana Linn Bailey’s Three Tips to Perfect Lateral Raises
- Lead with your elbows
- Flex your lats
- Lift from slightly in front
DLB’s first tip focuses on proper form, emphasizing the importance of keeping the elbow higher than the weights to allow the focus to be on the medial head.
“Tip number one is lead with your elbow. You want your elbow higher than the weights. If your weights are higher than your elbow, one it’s gonna cause a lot of strain, and you’re not really going to be focusing on that medial head so lead with the elbow” Bailey explained.
Next, she explained how flexing the lats helps the arms naturally come out at the sides, which allows for more tension on the shoulders.
“Second tip is actually going to be from your lats, so I want you to flex your lats out, and when you do that, your arms already come at your sides, that’s gonna be your down position.
Your arms should never be straight up and down, otherwise, you lose all tension. So, as you come down, you keep your lats flared, keeps tension on those shoulders.”
Finally, Dana Linn Bailey revealed that she doesn’t go directly down at her sides, instead, she executes them slightly in front to hit the middle of the delts.
“Lastly is, where do you come from. Do I come directly out to the sides? I like to come just slightly in front. I feel a little more tension on that middle part of my delt instead of out here. I feel it a little bit more in my traps. So, start with the dumbbells out in front of you and then go up from there.”
Regardless of the body part, Dana Linn Bailey has innovative and creative ways to grow them. In a recent offering, she shared easy-to-apply tips for growing an envious upper glute shelf using the abductor machine. Whether it’s a detail-filled guide on incorporating drop sets into your training or building muscle with lighter weights, DLB doesn’t hold back when it comes to maximizing fitness, health, and athleticism.
