As the year is slowly coming to an end, all eyes are now starting to shift focus towards the new season. In turn, some details about the 2025 CrossFit Games have already been revealed. Most notably, the organizers revealed a new format of qualifying for the biggest competition of the year. Consequently, the dates and locations for the in-person qualifying have been announced.

The change that was made will be reflected in the Semifinal stage, which is the penultimate step of qualifying for the 2025 CrossFit Games. So, contrary to previous years, the athletes will now have two paths to choose from when it comes to finding their spot in the finals.

One of the paths to the 2025 CrossFit Games will be through in-person Semifinal events that will take place in multiple locations around the globe. These events will witness an elite competitive stage where only a few of the greatest athletes from each of the nine competitions will secure their spot in the finals.

In an effort to make the sport of CrossFit accessible in even more locations around the world, CrossFit has decided to introduce another way of qualifying for the 2025 CrossFit Games. Namely, the athletes who make it through to the Semifinals will be allowed to perform the workouts in their affiliate. They will, however, be required to “record and submit their results with enhanced judging protocols”. The so-called ‘In-affiliate Semifinals’ will take place on May 1-4.

It is important to note that other changes have been made ahead of the upcoming 2025 CrossFit Games season. Most notably, the entire process has been cut down to three stages: Open – Semifinals – 2025 CrossFit Games. So, the Quarterfinals stage has been removed.

The 2025 CrossFit Open will be the first stage of the season and will be structured in the same way that we have seen in the past years. So, it will consist of three workouts taking place in the span of three weeks. The Open will start on February 27th and wrap up on March 17th, while the participants will submit their results virtually.

The new format of qualifying for the 2025 CrossFit Games will definitely allow more athletes to put out their best effort in the semifinals. Those who enjoy competing head-to-head against other athletes have the opportunity to take part in the in-person events. On the other hand, those that could potentially struggle to travel to a venue or encounter other setbacks now have the chance to qualify for the competition virtually.
