The 2025 England’s Strongest Man took place on July 20th in York, presenting itself as one of the biggest national competitions of the season. Being one of the most developed countries when it comes to Strongman, England showed off a dozen of its strongest men, pitting them against each other across five events. Paddy Haynes ended up winning the competition after a thrilling final event.
Paddy Haynes had a great start to the competition in the opening three events of the 2025 England’s Strongest Man, always hanging around the top of the leaderboard. However, he tied for sixth place in the Log Lift, which definitely put him in an unfavorable position ahead of the final event. Luckily, Paddy took the win in the Sandbag Medley to overtake Andrew Flynn, beating him by just 0.5 points overall.

Event One — Deadlift Ladder
The opening event of the 2025 England’s Strongest Man competition was the Deadlift Ladder. The concept of the event relied on a series of four deadlifts, starting at 320 kilograms (705.5 pounds) and ending at 380 kilograms (837.8 pounds). So, the athletes rushed to finish the event in the shortest time possible.

Graham Hicks was one of the contenders for the 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) deadlift in previous years. So, it was not a surprise to see him take the win in the Deadlift Ladder. He finished all four deadlifts in just 22.84 seconds, while none of the other athletes finished in under half a minute.
Ryan Bennett was the second-best athlete in the Deadlift Ladder, finishing with a time of 33.46 seconds and outshining some established Strongmen. Andrew Flynn was one second slower, which still secured him a top three finish.

Event Two — Shield Carry
The second event was the Shield Carry, known for its pain-inducing capabilities but also for being one of the most iconic Strongman tests of strength. In this instance, the athletes picked up a 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) shield and carried it for the longest distance possible.
Paddy Haynes emerged as the dominant winner in the second event of the 2025 England’s Strongest Man, showing incredible resilience and determination. He covered a total of 77.94 meters, beating his closest rival by a whopping 17.94-meter margin.
Andrew Flynn was given second place once all of the results were in, coming in at exactly 60 meters. Ben Glasscock was close to Andrew but ended up dropping his shield at 56.45 meters.

Event Three — Super Yoke
The Super Yoke combined speed and strength. It came out to a massive weight of 420 kilograms (925.9 pounds), making it hard for everyone to pick up. However, the athletes then also had to carry it for a distance of 20 meters while racing against all other competitors. So, the quickest time won.
The battle for first place came down to a mind-blowing margin, with three athletes finishing within just 0.65 seconds of each other. Kane Francis was on the winning end of the duel with a time of 14.02 seconds. This was his first event win of the competition, and it proved to be crucial in his battle for a podium finish overall.
Paddy Haynes was determined not to drop many points, finishing just 0.25 seconds behind Kane to grab second place. Andrew Flynn finished an additional 0.40 seconds behind Paddy to round out the top three.

Event Four — Log Lift
Moving on to the penultimate event of the 2025 England’s Strongest Man competition, the athletes faced the Log. The weight was set to 150 kilograms (330.7 pounds), which means that the sole task for the athletes was to lock out as many repetitions as possible. With the lineup being extremely stacked, the Log Lift ended up being one of the most unpredictable events.
Jack Osborn is known for his outstanding upper body strength and countless massive feats of strength from training that he often shares. So, he made easy work out of the 150-kilogram (330.7-pound) log and locked out nine repetitions. It is safe to say that no other athlete was even close to him.
The next best mark came out to six repetitions and was achieved by four athletes. Those were Kane Frances, Andrew Flynn, Paul Smith, and Ben Glasscock. In turn, they had to share second place.

Event Five — Sandbag Medley
Going into the final event, multiple athletes had the chance to take home the 2025 England’s Strongest Man title. So, to decide who was most worthy of the trophy, the athletes performed the Sandbag Medley. Specifically, they had to carry and toss two 140-kilogram (308.6-pound) sandbags over a beam before proceeding to the other side to continue carrying the implements to their respective platform. This was a timed event, meaning that the athletes raced to finish quicker.
Paddy Haynes pulled off an insane comeback in the final event, taking the event win to also take home the overall title. His time of 32.22 seconds separated him from the other 11 athletes and secured him the gold medal ahead of Andrew Flynn by just 0.5 points.
Ben Glasscock finished his run in 35.65 seconds and hoped to overtake Kane Francis on the overall leaderboards. However, Kane finished just one second after Ben and officially claimed a bronze medal overall.

Paddy Haynes is having the best season of his life, primarily because of the 5th-place finish that he achieved in his debut at the 2025 World’s Strongest Man. Moreover, following two consecutive bronze medals at the 2023 and 2024 England’s Strongest Man competitions, Paddy had now finally claimed the throne and secured the coveted national title. He now has 10 international and national Strongman appearances to his name, along with one victory.
