Roelly Winklaar to fans: “My showing was not my best!”
It’s no surprise that Roelly Winklaar’s 2019 Arnold Classic showing was a big let down. He went from being the favorite to quickly fading into his fifth-place finish. Winklaar placed third in last year’s Mr. Olympia competition and it looked like he was going to continue his phenomenal run into the new year. However, this was far from reality.
Now, because of his less than stellar performance, Winklaar felt it’d be fair to address the whole situation. Expectations were high but many people were probably unaware of the unfortunate circumstances leading up to the Arnold, although it’s not necessarily an excuse for his poor showing.
Roelly Winklaar explained that he had knee surgery in early 2018 and could only train legs at 85% effort. He also explained how he contracted food poisoning just two weeks out from the Arnold Classic. So, whether or not these are valid excuses for why Roelly didn’t show up to win doesn’t really matter at this point. He can only look forward to the rest of 2019 and try to redeem himself.
Here’s the Instagram post he made to address the fans about his performance…

Now that all is said and done, I feel I owe it to my fans to explain the events that happened before the Arnolds. I realize my showing was not my best, but before the show I don’t make excuses, especially when I make the commitment to compete at the Arnolds already. I do the job as best as I can.
I do it for the fans because I don’t want to let them down. At the beginning of the year I underwent minor surgery for my knees which meant I took a break from my leg training and when I did start back training legs I could only train at 85%.
The biggest blow though was when I went to Nepal to guest pose I ended up contracting food poisoning and became very sick just two weeks before the Arnold. I have to say thank you to the people of Nepal for making their best effort to take very good care of me when I was sick.
I am sorry I disappointed you, but you know that this time was not typical Roelly Winklaar and I can only promise to come better next time. Thank you all for your love and support.
AND CONGRATZ TO TOP 6 2019..
@brandon__curry verry happy for you man..
Unfortunately for Roelly Winklaar, Brandon Curry took the spotlight but it was a well-deserved win for him. Winklaar will make a comeback like he’s promised and many are counting on him to do so.
