Bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t mess around when it comes to protein (after all, he carved out a successful career thanks to muscle building). In a recent Arnold’s Pump Club Newsletter published on August 9, 2024, Schwarzenegger revealed his favorite protein-packed breakfast: Greek yogurt with granola.
Since embarking on his bodybuilding career, Schwarzenegger refused to underestimate the importance of quality nutrition. He is a seven-time Mr. Olympia winner. And those accolades weren’t earned by accident, he fought valiantly on the stage for each victory but that was just the beginning for ‘The Austrian Oak.’ He has also reached international fame having acted in countless action movies including the Terminator franchise.
Protein serves as one of the building blocks for muscle growth, something Schwarzenegger is quite familiar with. He’s offered extensive guides on proper intake and in addition, has rendered his opinion on optimal timing, scrutinizing the validity of the popular anabolic window. Given that Schwarzenegger has endured heart problems (he recently had a pacemaker installed), eating quality protein sources couldn’t be higher on his priority list.
Schwarzenegger eats a 70 percent plant-based diet. And while some believe plant-based protein options don’t stack up to their animal counterparts, the 76-year-old believes they offer the same muscle-building benefits as whey products.
Personally, I prefer the savory smell of bacon and eggs in the morning, but Arnie’s agenda is fixated on longevity and health, so his go-to favorite breakfast greatly differs from what I’m used to having. To keep himself young and full of energy, Schwarzenegger has gotten behind Greek yogurt and granola — a fantastic option full of protein and amino acids.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Names His Favorite Protein-Enriched Breakfast Options
Greek yogurt and granola make for a satisfying breakfast courtesy of its rich nutritional content. It has probiotics for gut health, protein for fueling muscle protein synthesis, and is low in sugar, making it ideal for those of varying fitness levels. Granola is a healthy carbohydrate source and is adored by those entrenched in fitness.
Eggs (rich in vitamins A, D, B12, and choline) are a complete protein source rich in nutrients as well; they also support weight management and can improve cholesterol levels. Lentils are a great source of protein too as plant foods can have a positive effect on heart health. They also contain healthy quantities of fats and fiber, which are essential to healthy bodily functions.
