Carlos Petterson-Grifith is always battling for podium finishes in elite competitions, but the greatest asset that he is best known for is his unmatched strength on the squats. This turned out to be the case once again at the 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which are taking place on June 15-23, in Druskininkai, Lithuania. There, Carlos managed to squat 337.5 kilograms (744.1 pounds) and thus regained possession of the U93KG Raw IPF World Record.

Carlos Petterson-Grifith does not like to risk too much on his first attempt and often picks out a significantly lighter weight than what his maximum capabilities are. So, this time he opened up with a 305-kilogram (672.4-pound) squat, which hardly presented a challenge for him.

However, Carlos Petterson-Grifith’s second attempt of 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds) was much heavier, meaning that it required more energy and effort. Regardless, Carlos completed the lift and walked off in a confident manner.

Finally, the time came for Carlos Petterson-Grifith to take on his ultimate goal, a third squat attempt of 337.5 kilograms (744.1 pounds). This was his second encounter with this exact weight, as he was unsuccessful in lifting it at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. It is safe to say that he redeemed himself, having locked out the squat and set a new U93KG IPF World Record.

Carlos Petterson-Grifith’s Full Performance

Carlos Petterson-Grifith had a pretty decent performance overall, having just missed two out of his nine attempts. However, it is important to note that Carlos is always among the top athletes when it comes to the squat and deadlift, but his bench press is what prevents him from contending for the title. In turn, he finished in 5th place, which is still an improvement from last year when he made his debut.
