Physician Dr. Peter Attia has embraced his fitness now more than ever. In his latest venture on YouTube, Dr. Attia discusses the profound impact exercise has on quality of life, underlining that it can reduce the risk of chronic disease and all-cause mortality.

With over 699,000 subscribers on his YouTube platform, Dr. Attia provides easy-to-understand and practical knowledge for just about everyone. From his opinions of nutrition to his exercises for lifelong fitness, optimizing health remains his top priority.

With a staggering 54 percent obesity rate in America, the preservation of health has become a huge concern. This has prompted Dr. Attia to explore how exercise can mitigate disease and body dysfunction. Even if exercise reduced his lifespan (which it doesn’t), Attia believes the quality of life benefits are too great to ignore.

Dr. Peter Attia Opens Up on the Benefits of Exercise, Says It Reduces Risk of All-Cause Mortality and Chronic Disease

Dr. Attia revealed that exercise can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases as well as all-cause mortality.

“Advice maybe not, but certainly incentive would be the following. We talk so much about the benefits of exercise in terms of how much it reduces the risk of chronic disease, how much it reduces all-cause mortality, you’ve probably heard me say this before but it’s worth repeating.

If I knew that all this training I was doing, everything I’m doing–if I knew it was going to shorten my life by a year, I would still do it purely for the improvement in quality of life between now and the end of my life.”

He adds that exercise is the single most important practice to ensure long-lasting physical health.

“The fact that it’s not shortening my life by a year, the fact that it’s probably adding five to seven years to my life and improving the quality of my life means day in and day out I just think it’s about the most important thing that I can do vis-à-vis my physical health,” shares Peter Attia.

Slowing the aging process remains one of Dr. Attia’s biggest goals as a healthcare professional. He believes there’s something ‘magical’ going on for those who practice calorie restriction methods, adding that it can help elongate life.

And if reducing all-cause mortality sits atop your to-do list, fellow health expert Dr. Rhonda Patrick has something for you to try. She advocated for two-minute ‘exercise snacks,’ comprised of brief periods of physical activity.

“It’s kind of a broader term but it really can refer to a deliberate type of exercise you do for one minute, two minutes, three minutes, this is anything from burpees to squats. You can do high knees, you can do a variety of different things to get your heart rate up really high in a short period of time.”

Maximizing health and longevity drives Peter Attia to deliver useful advice for reversing the aging process. While there is no ultimate weapon for living a longer life, Dr. Attia admits regular exercise comes close.
