Goli Nutrition Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Gummies are the first of its kind and the only product currently sold by the company. And apparently, they think apple cider vinegar is the best thing since sliced bread which many others do as well. ACV is a pretty popular item.

We found their gummies intriguing and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Having to drink ACV isn’t the most pleasant thing and we think this appeals to many in that regard. So, read on if you’re interested in my thoughts on this product of which I’ve given a detailed review…

Apple cider vinegar is the star ingredient in the gummies, hence the reason why people buy them in hopes of experiencing the benefits. 

How’s ACV made? 

ACV is made from a fermentation procedure using apples, yeast, and bacteria. During the process, yeast is combined with the apples which then convert the sugars from the apples into alcohol. Then, the bacteria, acetobacter, is added to the apples which then produce acetic acid, the main compound that is believed to be responsible for the health benefits.

You probably noticed how potent ACV is in both smell and taste, well, that also comes from the acetic acid. Goli gummies contain 5% acetic acid per serving which is typical for ACV.

Then you have “The mother” which is another substance contained in organic, unfiltered ACV which is thought to be beneficial for health due to its contents. However, this is highly debatable and evidence is lacking.

ACV has also been used for hundreds of years as a medicinal ingredient and culinary purposes. It’s a pretty popular food product in many households.

ACV for weight loss

Many people use ACV because it’s believed to support weight management. ACV may help to promote satiety leaving you fuller which could stop you from overindulging. Although, one study did find that the lack of appetite could be due to an intolerance to ACV resulting in nausea. (1)

Another study of 39 overweight and obese individuals found that 30ml/d ACV combined with a calorie-restricted diet of 250 kcal/day resulted in nearly twice as much weight loss compared to a calorie-restricted diet only, over the course of 12 weeks. 

They ACV group also saw a reduction in appetite, plus lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and an increase in HDL (good cholesterol). The reduction in appetite likely played a big role in the weight loss. 

Now, the main reason for gaining excess weight is either the consumption of too many calories and not enough consistent expenditure of these calories or just not enough physical activity. But to be honest, your best approach for achieving significant weight loss is to just structure a lower calorie meal plan that you can stick to. 

ACV may help but eating fewer calories and getting in daily or frequent exercise is going to make the biggest difference. There’s no food item or supplement that will shed the pounds for you without a good effort on your part.

Blood sugar health/insulin sensitivity

Apple cider vinegar may have some positive effects on blood sugar.

Type 2 diabetes is a much too common disease that occurs when the body cannot effectively use insulin to allow your body to utilize glucose as energy. (2)

According to a study published on the American Diabetes Association (ADA) website, Type 2 diabetes is expected to increase by 50% in the next 25% years which is very alarming. 

Several studies have shown that having vinegar alongside a meal reduces postprandial glucose and insulin levels. (3)

The same previously-mentioned study by the ADA also found that apple cider vinegar can “significantly improve postprandial insulin sensitivity in insulin-resistant subjects“. Those with diabetes saw small improvements. It was also concluded that ACV can have effects similar to the prescription diabetes medications acarbose or metformin. 

The volunteers for this study were either insulin sensitive, insulin-resistant, or had Type 2 diabetes and they did not take any diabetes medications. They were instructed to consume the 20 g apple cider vinegar, 40 g water, and 1 tsp saccharine or a placebo drink. Then two minutes later they ate a meal composed of a white bagel, butter, and orange juice (87 g total carbohydrates).

It’s fine to use apple cider vinegar for its potential benefits, however, you still need to be monitored by a health professional. Don’t think that based on this information, you can self diagnose as this is ill-advised.

May support heart health 

While there may be claims that ACV can improve heart health, most studies have been conducted on animals. Therefore, while it could be useful for humans, the evidence is insufficient. 

But while we’re here… a few different studies found that ACV lowers blood pressure in hypertensive rats. The acetic acid was noted as the likely culprit for this effect. (4, 5)

High blood pressure is a big risk factor for heart health and if too high it can be lethal. It’s important to keep it under control by living an overall healthy lifestyle that consists of eating quality foods, exercising regularly, getting good sleep, taking care of your mind… you get the drift. 

Another study discovered that acetic acid lowered serum total cholesterol and triacylglycerol in rats. Then in one review, it was explained that ACV was able to reduce the risk of obesity-associated disease and suppress obesity-induced oxidative stress in high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic Wistar rats. Gut health/ immune system

“The mother” which results from an unfiltered ACV (causes murky liquid), supposedly contains beneficial bacteria, yeast, and protein. It’s believed to contain probiotics which are the microorganisms that line our gut/immune system. These probiotics maintain healthy gut flora that is important for protecting our bodies against disease, digestion, and other functions.

May improve symptoms of PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder in women that affects weight, the menstrual cycle, the ovaries, and tends to elevate male hormones. These characteristics are very undesirable and apple cider vinegar has shown to have beneficial effects.

One study of seven women with PCOS found that 15g of apple vinegar daily for 90 to 110 days improved ovulatory function through improving insulin sensitivity. This is more proof of ACV’s therapeutic effects for those with Type 2 diabetes. (8)

Good overall health/disease prevention

ACV contains polyphenols (plant-based antioxidants) that protect our cells from stress and damage. Consequently, this prevents the development of chronic diseases of any sort (e.g. cancers, heart disease, etc). Aside from antioxidants though, it doesn’t generally contain a bunch of vitamins and minerals.

Although, it doesn’t need too because of the other health benefits it has been shown to have.

Does ACV improve acid reflux and digestion?

Many people find that ACV helps with acid reflux. But there’s limited scientific evidence to prove this which also seems to be the case for digestion support. However, if it works for you, great. But it’s not a treatment that can effectively be recommended in general especially in more severe cases.

B12

This essential vitamin is very necessary for healthy cell function, nerve health, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis. Red blood cells are important for the transport of oxygen throughout the body to tissue and vital organs. That’s why people low on B12 (anemia) can feel tired and fatigued. 

Hence the need for a B12 shot! 

B12 is also associated with bone health and there’s evidence that a deficiency can contribute to a reduction in bone mineral density. This can, over time, contribute to bone diseases such as osteoporosis and women are especially susceptible. (8, 9)

It may also have benefits for eye health, heart health, and is just all-around vital for optimal health. 

Folate (folic acid)

Folic acid is the synthetic version of folate and is a B-vitamin that is necessary for blood cell health. It’s naturally found in certain foods such as nuts and dark leafy vegetation.

It can prevent birth defects and is an important nutrient during pregnancy. It also works alongside B6 and B12 to control levels of homocysteine that can have negative effects on heart health. 

Other ingredients 

Goli gummies also contain organic cane sugar for sweetness and to mask the flavor of apple cider vinegar. One gummy has 1g organic sugar which isn’t bad at all. Although, if you do have to watch your blood sugar, you may need to stay within a smaller serving range. And overall, you should maintain a lower sugar intake for good health. 

Additional ingredients include organic tapioca, water, pectin, sodium citrate dihydrate, citric acid, and malic acid. These ingredients are simply added for the texture and taste of the gummies.

The taste and color come from the natural apple flavor, organic carrot (color), organic apple (color), organic black currant (color), organic beet root, and organic pomegranate.

Basic nutrition information

One serving (one gummy) of Goli gummies is only 15 calories, 4g carbs (1%), and 1g sugar (added).

The product is gelatin-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegan, non-GMO, organic, and unfiltered with “The Mother”. Gummies are made with real apples in case you were wondering. Goli gummies are a very clean product.

Can Apple Cider Vinegar/Gummies Cause Side Effects? 

ACV is generally safe when consumed in recommended doses. 

Liquid ACV can erode tooth enamel due to the acidity when consumed regularly. Washing your mouth out with water and drinking through a straw can minimize or eliminate this. (10)

This shouldn’t be the case with the gummies although it’s still good to rinse your mouth due to the sugar content. 

With any form of ACV though, you could experience an exacerbation of heartburn with nausea and similar discomfort. (1)

Therefore, this is possible with the gummies and not uncommon simply because not everyone will have a positive experience with ACV.

Some people also experience decreased potassium, blood thinning, and throat irritation. Although this is more likely the case in large, undiluted amounts.

How To Take It

According to the bottle instructions, you can take 1-2 gummies up to 3 times per day (6 gummies total). It doesn’t specify when a good time would be to take it. Many take ACV around mealtimes. However, you could experiment a little with this and you’d likely be fine taking it any time of the day.  

There’s 500mg of ACV in a serving (1 gummy) of Goli gummies. 2 gummies are equal to one shot of liquid ACV. But again, as per the bottle, you can safely and effectively take up to 6 per day.  

Taste 

No need to dedicate a section just for the smell of the product, but in my opinion, they smell like a gummy would with only a faint smell of ACV. Not at all something that would turn anyone off from this product. 

Now, for the taste, well, I could’ve eaten them like candy… they were that enjoyable. It actually tasted just like a fruit snack (not a gummy bear) with an almost gum-drop like texture.

Was there an aftertaste? I honestly didn’t find there to be an aftertaste except for a slight cooling sensation that you get when you eat a mint, which didn’t last for very long.

Cost/serving size

One bottle (one-month supply) of 60 gummies costs $19 with free shipping. Although, they also offer a 3 (three bottles of 60) and 5-month (5 bottles of 60) option. The three-bottle package is the same price per bottle ($19) and you save $6 altogether with the 5-month supply.

Now let’s talk about how long a bottle will last you…

One gummy is one serving. But the bottle says you can take up to 6 gummies per day. So, depending on how you take the gummies, you can make a bottle last for two months if you take 1 gummy a day. However, two is probably better for potency at a minimum. Or, you could eat more gummies per day and obviously have to buy a new bottle sooner.

Of, course, this is just an example of how you can take Goli gummies and you’re free to take however many you find to be beneficial for you.

Is Goli Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies Worth The Buy? 

I’d say the product itself is worth the buy if you desire a more enjoyable alternative to ACV shots. Although, I do recommend that you factor in how many gummies you’d want to take per day based on a serving of liquid apple cider vinegar. If you take a generous amount daily then you might go through a bottle quickly. Just keep that in mind.

Also, unlike liquid ACV, the gummies do contain sugar at 1g per gummy. If you plan on taking several gummies throughout the day and need to watch your sugar intake, then this is something to consider.

Then, of course, based on the research information that we’ve provided, you’ll have to decide if ACV meets your expectations as far as its potential benefits on certain health factors. 

Other than that though, you’ll just have to weigh the pros and cons to see if it’s a good option for you.
