Retired IFBB Pro Guy Cisternino is clearing the air, addressing a handful of pressing matters plaguing the bodybuilding community. In a recent Instagram reel shared on October 23, 2024, Cisternino gave his thoughts on Jeff Nippard being assaulted by Mike Van Wyck. He also defended Matt Jansen in the wake of his coaching controversy and Nick Walker’s potential as a top-tier Open contender.
The sport of bodybuilding has been downright chaotic as of late. Prolific fitness YouTuber Jeff Nippard was assaulted by mass monster Mike Van Wyck at the Pure Muscle and Fitness Gym in Canada. Van Wyck jabbed him in the throat twice, sending Nippard crashing to the ground.
Nippard later went to the hospital and underwent a CT scan to rule out any head injuries. In the aftermath, Mike Van Wyck was not only banned from the gym location but was slapped with two counts of assault.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. High-profile bodybuilding coach Matt Jansen, who oversaw Nick Walker’s, Brett Wilkin’s, Shaun Clarida’s, and Justin Shier’s preparations, decided to switch gears, prompting all of his athletes to no longer work with him.
Guy Cisternino Talks Jeff Nippard Being Assaulted by Mike Van Wyck, Matt Jansen’s Coaching Controversy, and Nick Walker’s Situation
The coaching controversy has engulfed the bodybuilding community as fans are curious if Nick Walker can successfully bounce back after withdrawing from the Mr. Olympia contest for two consecutive years. With so much to process, Guy Cisternino gave his two cents on these current events.
To begin his rant, Guy Cisternino gave his thoughts on Jeff Nippard being assaulted by Van Wyck. While he doesn’t believe Van Wyck had the right to put his hands on Nippard, he believes the science-based YouTuber was ‘ridiculous’ for posting a hospital selfie and going to the police.

“First and foremost, I don’t agree with somebody putting their hands on anybody. And I’m not going to get into the Mike and Jeff stuff.
“I don’t think that should have happened. However, I also don’t think going to the emergency room, taking selfies, and going to the police is also a little dramatic. I think it’s a little ridiculous. But, you know, I do follow Jeff, and Mike’s my boy, so I’m not going to go much into detail on that topic.”
Next, Cisternino decided to shed some light on the Matt Jansen coaching controversy. He believes these athletes chose to work with Jansen and that he is not fully responsible for their bodybuilding performances.
Furthermore, okay, in regards to Nick Walker, Shaun Clarita, Brett, Justin, Matt, okay, number one, as a bodybuilder, you make the call on what coach you want to work with, okay?
“Nobody forces you to work with somebody. So all those guys chose to work with Matt, okay? Allowing somebody to take the reins and control your diet, or your cardio, or your supplement regimen, whatever the case may be, that’s their choice. So right off the bat, it’s 50% on the athletes, because that’s who they chose to work with.”
Given the success that Jansen and his athletes have had over the years, Cisternino believes it’s wrong to blame him wholeheartedly.
“Nick has won an Arnold, New York Pro, top three at the Olympia. Matt misses one year with his guys, one fucking year, and you guys got to pin him to a fucking cross?”
“Are you serious? Matt is a great human being. Regardless if you like his drug protocols, regardless if you like what he does, if you like his athletes, whatever the fucking case may be, that’s a hard-working motherfucker that balanced a life, a family, businesses, clients. And maybe he didn’t do that good of a job this year because he started doing stuff for himself” Cisternino said.
He also called out fans for dismissing Nick Walker after ‘The Mutant’ was forced to remove himself from the past two Mr. Olympias.
“The motherfucker backed out of one Olympia, one show, one, because he tore his hamstring and his fucking leg looked like a stuck pig. And you guys want to sit here and say he’s all talk.”
The bodybuilding community continues to see drastic changes, leaving followers of the sport wondering what’s to come.
