Jonathan Lewis has put up some extremely impressive performances at a National and regional level, but recently proved that he is a world-class athlete at his first International performance. This happened at the 2024 Euro Muscle Show, which took place on July 13-14 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Specifically, Jonathan managed to set a new U93KG Raw Deadlift IPF Junior World Record of 355.5 kilograms (783.7 pounds).
Jonathan Lewis opened up with a massive 330-kilogram (727.5-pound) deadlift, which was already just 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) below his Competition PR at the time. Still, despite being one of his heaviest pulls ever, Jonathan did not struggle at all, showing that he was capable of much more.
Moreover, Jonathan Lewis further surprised everyone by immediately jumping to 355.5 kilograms (783.7 pounds) on his second deadlift attempt. The barbell started moving off the floor, but Jonathan unfortunately dropped it and started limping towards the backstage. Lewis later revealed that he believed that he tore his hamstring. Luckily, that wasn’t the case.
With just one attempt left, the nerves started kicking in for Jonathan Lewis, as seen in his preparation for 355.5 kilograms (783.7 pounds) again, where he made sure that everything was just right. Then, using nothing but a lifting belt, Jonathan started pulling and the weight moved up at a steady pace. In turn, after reaching lockout, Jonathan officially ended up with a new U93KG Junior IPF World Record.
*Krzysztof Wierzbicki held the previous record of 355-kg (782.6-lb), which he set at the 2013 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships. So, this was the longest standing Junior IPF World Record, as per the Instagram caption of Jonathan Lewis.
