There is no one-size-fits-all solution to losing weight and it is oftentimes a difficult and frustrating journey. During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Kevin James discussed losing 60 pounds in 41 days with a water fast.
With so many diet fads on the market, it isn’t surprising that trying to come up with a weight loss plan can be arduous or even seem impossible. Fortunately, fitness enthusiasts such as former bodybuilder and nutrition coach Stan Efferding have provided individuals looking to improve their health and wellness with easy-to-follow tips and tricks to find success.

With roles such as the hit sitcom The King of Queens and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, James has had his fair share of time on the big screen. Being in the limelight has caused James to feel pressure to get in shape although after several attempts he has still struggled to slim down.

“[Mike] Dolce is going to help me out with this thing. He’s awesome. We already did one. We already did a documentary. It was called Cheat Day, where I thought you could work out like six days a week and just have one day to eat what you want and just do it that way.”
“He said you’re not going to be able to do this, I said why? He said your one day is going to destroy everything. And I remember this, you can’t out work a bad diet. And he was right. I would crush it so hard. People don’t know what I can eat, you know what I’m saying?”
“You have no idea how much I can crush food. That one day would just destroy it for the rest,” adds Kevin James.
Joe Rogan comments on how food addictions are the hardest because it is the only addiction that you can’t abstain from.
“It’s the craziest thing if you’re addicted to food, because you have to eat it. It’s not like heroin. Like, if you’re addicted to heroin, oh, I got a heroin problem I’m going to take a little bit of heroin, no, you’re going to go full bore again, and get fucked. It’s one of the very few things that you’re addicted to it and you got to not be addicted to it anymore yet you still need to eat it,” explains Joe Rogan.
Kevin James shares that the ketogenic diet did work for him. James also acknowledges that he has shifted his way of thinking and is now focused on simply bettering himself.
“The ketogenic thing that for me has worked. Dolce will hate me for saying it, he’s like, blueberries or carbs, carbs are fine for you, the right carbs,” said James.
“I’ve done everything, it all works for a while but why am I this size now? You know… every time I’m just recently I started stop comparing myself to other people and trying to just say get better than yourself.”
The Ketogenic diet wasn’t the only technique Kevin James has used to lose weight. For a movie role, James fasted for a total of 41 days with just water.
“I’m 280, dude I’m going to have to look like either right in priest got stung by a bee just swelled up or I gotta get in shape for it [movie role]. I gotta get in shape. I got to get back down to that again. I have as much [time] as I would, we’ll shoot it when I’m ready but it’s like waiting there to do a couple of scenes,” said James.
“How long will it take for you to lose 50 pounds?” asks Rogan.
“I can lose it really quick. I could fast and lose it. Seriously, I could lose it… I could lose it quick,” said Kevin James. “I could do it in a month [lose 50 lbs], less than a month. Yeah.”
“I can do it fasting. Fasting, just not you know, but that’s eating nothing. No [I don’t feel like shit]. When I fast, I didn’t. You don’t want to know [how many days I’ve fasted in a row], 41 and a half.”

Kevin James explains how he went over 41 days without eating.
“What? You went 41 days with no food?” asks Rogan.
“Water,” replies James.
“And a little salt, like a little electrolytes and I lost. When I lock on, I can do something. Well, that was fasting, it was mental. I felt so bad for my daughter I said I’m going to do this for you, something that I could do and apply it too. It was like so emotionally tied into me. I started fasting and I go, I didn’t say I’m going to do 40 days I just said I’m going to do whatever I can, I’m going to start fasting right now.”
The famous actor admits he lost 60 pounds from the water fast and didn’t even take vitamins:
“A day at a time,” adds James. “I lost 60 pounds.”
“I didn’t even take vitamins. It cleansed everything out of me. I’m not saying it’s the way to go.”

Even though Kevin James found success with fasting, it isn’t a foolproof method of losing weight. Dr. Rhonda Patrick did a deep dive into intermittent fasting where she shared the effects it has on not only losing weight but also the body’s ability to recover. While it often provides people with the weight loss they seek, Dr. Rhonda Patrick warns that it can cause muscle loss in certain individuals.
Kevin James proves that even Hollywood celebrities struggle with weight gain but thankfully he has found systems that work for him and his body. Others wanting to lose weight now have easier access to doctors and scientific studies allowing for more opportunities to improve their overall health.
