Retired bodybuilder Matt Maclaughlin has passed away. He was best known for winning the 1992 NPC Teen National Championship. The cause of his death is not known at the moment. The news of McLaughlin’s passing was confirmed by his friend Kevin Mcgaunn.

Although Maclaughlin had a short bodybuilding career, many professional bodybuilders spoke highly of his potential. They opined that he had the necessary tools to become a successful professional bodybuilder if he had chosen to pursue a career in the sport.

Matt MacLaughlin’s bodybuilding career at a glance

Matt MacLaughlin made his NPC debut by scoring a thumping victory at the 1991 NPC New England Championships in the Teen Lightweight category. Winning the 1992 NPC Teen Nationals was the most notable achievement of his career. However, he also replicated the success at the 1993 North American Championships, winning in the Light Heavyweight category.

His decade-long bodybuilding career concluded after a runner-up finish at the 2001 NPC Ironman Championships. Although he retired from the sport way too early, many of his co-competitors believed that he had the potential to make it big if he stayed around longer.

According to reports, MacLaughlin was not happy with the results of the 1997 NPC Massachusetts Championships as he expected to emerge victoriously. He is said to have smashed his runner-up trophy at the end of the show and his friends had to be removed from the event for protesting the outcome.

It was also reported that Matt MacLaughlin got into trouble with the law as he had spent some time in prison because of his alleged involvement with drugs.
