There are many exciting powerlifting figures in the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) currently. However, one who has a very promising future is Natalie Laalaai. She is an Australian representative who has propelled herself to fame extremely quickly. Natalie has continued to add success to her resume at the 2023 APU Western Australia State Championships, where she managed to deadlift 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds) for an Unofficial IPF World Record.
Natalie Laalaai put on a lifting belt before coming out on stage for her 272.5-kilogram (600.8-pound) deadlift. She then came out, planted her feet in a narrow conventional stance, took some breaths, and grabbed the bar with a mixed grip. Then, seemingly instantly, the barbell started moving, and it did not slow down until Natalie reached lockout. With a stone-cold look on her face, Natalie slowly lowered the bar back down and waited for confirmation. Once it arrived, Natalie did not hide her excitement.
The current official IPF World Record stands at 268 kilograms (590.8 pounds) and is in possession of Natalie Laalaai herself. She set it at the 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships. Interestingly, that was her debut on the International stage, and she managed to set a record.

Natalie Laalaai’s Full Performance
Natalie Laalaai shared a full recap of her performance on Instagram, where she revealed her opinion about how everything turned out. She was not fully satisfied, even though she unofficially broke the IPF World Record.
“I would say this was probably one of my worst comps I’ve had (didnt help I was lazy after worlds and slacked on training lmao)”
- Squat: 245 kilograms (540.1 pounds)
- Bench Press: 120 kilograms (264.6 pounds)
- Deadlift: 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds) — Unofficial IPF World Record
- Total: 637.5 kilograms (1,405.4 pounds)
Some might wonder why Natalie Laalaai’s deadlift was only an unofficial IPF World Record although she performed it in a competition. Well, as the rules stand, a record can only be set in competitions that are sanctioned by the IPF or one of their associate federations.
That should not present a problem for Natalie Laalaai who will undoubtedly display even more improvements the next time she steps on the international stage. So, a lot of excitement will build up around her when that time comes.
Natalie Laalaai has taken part in seven sanctioned powerlifting competitions so far, and has landed five victories during that time. Moreover, her first-ever contest came in 2019, meaning that she has not been in the sport for too long. However, her lifting abilities would prove otherwise.

Natalie Laalaai states that she has not trained as hard as she should have recently, but it still led her to an unofficial IPF World Record. So, it is scary to think about how much weight she will be able to lift once she increases the intensity of her workouts. It is impossible to predict, but Natalie could definitely put up some historic lifts in the future.
