Natalie Laalaai made her IPF debut at last year’s Worlds, where she impressed the community with some incredible feats of strength. Well, this year was no different, as Natalie was once again a sensation at the 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which took place on June 15-23 in Druskininkai, Lithuania. She competed in the arguably most interesting weight class of the competition, the +84KG. Despite facing some of the most elite athletes on earth, Natalie managed to get her own moment of fame when she set a 273-kilogram (601.9-pound) Raw Deadlift IPF World Record.

Immediately on the first attempt, it became clear that a tight battle would ensue between Natalie Laalaai and Brittany Schlater. Laalaai opened up with an easy 255-kilogram (562.2-pound) deadlift, while Schlater lifted just 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) less.

So, going into the second attempt, the women had to choose their next jump. Natalie Laalaai decided to immediately chip the World Record with a deadlift of 268.5 kilograms (591.9 pounds). On the other hand, Schlater lifted 1-kilogram (2.2 pounds) less on her second attempt, thus remaining close and putting pressure on Laalaai.

The pressure increased further when Brittany Schlater locked out 269.5 kilograms (594.1 pounds) for her final attempt, thus outperforming Laalaai’s heaviest attempt until that point. In turn, Natalie had to successfully perform her third attempt as well; otherwise, she would have gone home empty handed.

Natalie Laalaai chose 273 kilograms (601.9 pounds) for her final deadlift attempt, hopeful of officially setting a new World Record. However, judging by how her attempt went, she could have potentially lifted even more weight. Her attempt looked extremely smooth, and the only portion of the deadlift that was a bit slower was the lockout.

*Natalie Laalaai held the previous +84KG Raw Deadlift IPF World Record of 268-kg (590.8-lb), which she set at the 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.
