Ruslan Nurudinov is one of the veterans of olympic-style weightlifting, having competed for over a decade already. All of that experience came in handy recently at the 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships, which took place on December 6-15 in Manama, Bahrain. Namely, Ruslan put up an incredible 242-kilogram (533.5-pound) Clean & Jerk for a new U109KG World Record.

Ruslan Nurudinov opened up his Clean & Jerk session with a smooth 223-kilogram (491.6-pound) lift, adding to his confidence for the remaining two attempts. He then moved on to 230 kilograms (507 pounds) for his second attempt. He was once again successful, claiming the top spot overall.

With a gold medal under his belt, Ruslan Nurudinov had the freedom to go for the World Record on his final attempt. In hopes of doing so, Ruslan loaded 242 kilograms (533.5 pounds). With that, Ruslan chipped the former record by 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds). The overall lift looked very easy for him, but he did struggle for a few seconds to stabilize his lockout and receive white lights.

*Ruslan Nurudinov also held the previous U109KG Clean & Jerk World Record of 241-kg (531.3-lb). He set that record at the Asian Weightlifting Championships back in 2021.

Ruslan Nurudinov’s Full Performance

Ruslan Nurudinov was 33-years-old at the time of his performance, making him much older than many other competitors. Interestingly, this was his third time setting a World Record, having achieved the feat in 2014, 2021, and now in 2024. So, his longevity in the sport is impressive to say the least. When it comes to his overall performance at the 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships, Ruslan missed two attempts on the snatch, showing that there is still more room for improvement.

Ruslan Nurudinov’s unsuccessful attempts on the snatch put him in fifth place overall going into the final event, which definitely made his path toward the title much more difficult. He was hopeful of taking the lead from the start of the competition. However, despite the setback, Ruslan managed to come back on the Clean & Jerk and even set a new World Record. He ended up beating the second-place finisher by a staggering 20 kilograms (44 pounds).
