The 2025 Strongest Man on Earth is taking place on August 16-17 in Loveland, Colorado, and marks one of the key points of the season for 16 world-class Strongman athletes. Well, being such a heavy competition, all athletes come in accepting the risk of injury. One that unfortunately suffered an injury is Shane Flowers, and the circumstances forced him to withdraw from the competition.

Shane Flowers started the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth with a 12th-place finish in the Max Log Lift event. He claimed the spot after lifting 188 kilograms (414.5 pounds) on his heaviest attempt. He then placed second-to-last on the Frame into Arm-Over-Arm. However, Shane made up for it with a second-place tie in the Keg Toss event.

Shane Flowers got injured while trying to warm up for the final event of the day, the Manhood Stones. The extent of the injury is unknown, but Shane believes that he suffered a lat tear.

“Unfortunately, I’ve withdrawn from the comp with a suspected lat tear during warm up for atlas stones.

Hoping it’s just a muscle belly. Will have a scan when back in the UK,” wrote Shane Flowers on his Instagram story.

Shane Flowers is having bad luck when it comes to injuries, as he missed the majority of the 2024 season due to a bicep tear. After a long recovery process, Shane managed to get back to the competition floor back in November and progressively got better with each new appearance during the 2025 season. He claimed silver at the 2025 Britain’s Strongest Man and followed it up with a 7th-place finish at the 2025 World’s Strongest Man. However, Shane’s now encountered another setback, which could put his season on hold.

Some other athletes have withdrawn from the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth, but did so before the competition started. Most notably, the 2025 WSM champion, Rayno Nel, initially accepted the invitation but decided to pull out after realizing that he had too many obligations to fulfill both in Strongman and in his job. However, Rayno has revealed that he would like to claim the title of Strongest On Earth in the future.

On the other hand, last year’s champion, Mitchell Hooper, also decided not to compete at this year’s competition. He had a couple of underwhelming performances this season and decided to take a break from the sport in order to get back to his best. Luckily, Hooper will come back either later this season or at the start of 2026.
