Terrence Ruffin is inching toward his big return to the stage. In a recent YouTube video shared on January 29, 2025, ‘Hypertrophy Coach’ Joe Bennett analyzed Ruffin’s physique, offering him pointers ahead of the 2025 Pittsburgh Pro. In addition, Ruffin pushed through an arm, delt, and hamstring workout.

His aesthetics and small waist have produced results under the bright lights. Terrence Ruffin has won the prestigious Arnold Classic title twice throughout his tenure.

Bennett analyzed Ruffin’s physique after the workout. He believes Ruffin should scale back on his abductor and adductor work.
“I don’t know if you’re going to need much direct adductor and abductor work. Two separate things obviously. Some of it I can tell obviously, I thought maybe not on the one side.”
“For years we didn’t train any of that at all. I’ve been training those pretty [well] for the last few months,” explains Ruffin.
He specified that Classic Physique competitors don’t need bigger glutes like athletes in the Men’s Open.
“I know it’s a completely arbitrary thing and I don’t know if there’s any truth to this, well obviously, it’s 100 percent opinion, I just think in general, Classic guys should have smaller glutes than Open guys,” said Bennett.
“With Chris and Ramon, those two dudes, their glutes were huge,” says Ruffin.
According to Bennett, a trademark of an elite Classic bodybuilder is bigger quads and arms.
“Chris’ glutes aren’t big they are just so damn shredded. I didn’t think they were big,” said Bennett. “It’s a subtle thing but half of it, when you look at the looks, when everyone thinks Classic, part of the reality obviously, it’s a new division that exists now but you still think of the Classic look, and the difference between the guys in the 70s, 80s, 90s, yeah the trademark was guys had bigger quads, bigger arms, but they generally had smaller glutes.”
He doubled down that Ruffin probably doesn’t need any more abductor work.
“The things I would say tweak in between, if we do your legs, maybe back off a little bit on — I would probably take out the abductor work honestly. The abductor work you could probably leave and it’s just something to keep an eye on.”
“You always want your quads to be the main thing you see from the front,” adds Bennett.
In addition, he advised Ruffin to improve his back to hold his own against Mike Sommerfeld.
“I honestly think we need to add in a little bit more back work. I think your back looks good. That’s one of those body parts I still think, thinking who you’re going to be on stage with, we want your quads and back dominant.”
Then he mentioned that bringing up his triceps would be ideal, though that could be challenging for Ruffin given his recent elbow injury.
“The only thing I still want to see come up too is your triceps,” says Bennett. “If there’s one thing you mess around with is your frequency for both bis and tris is just make sure you’re getting stronger.”
With plans to bring up his hamstrings, lats, back, and arms, Ruffin has plenty to work on this season. He isn’t underestimating the new landscape in the Classic Physique category. He believes these improvements would lead to him holding his own against the number one Classic Physique Olympia contender Mike Sommerfeld.
Ruffin continues to showcase new improvements in his physique, courtesy of his extended off-season. Now, with prep for the 2025 Pittsburgh Pro underway, fans look forward to seeing what he’ll display on stage come May 10-11.
