Emily Ibanez is easily one of the greatest weightlifting prospects in the world, which is beyond impressive considering that she is just 13-years-old. So, Emily has barely scratched her teenage years, but she is already stronger than the majority of people on earth. Although that might seem unbelievable, Emily proved it by setting a new 165-kilogram (363.8-pound) Squat Personal Record during a recent training session.

Following her warm-up, Emily Ibanez filled the barbell with bumper plates that she usually uses for her Weightlifting training. Aware of the challenge ahead of her, the young athlete put on her weightlifting shoes, a pair of knee wraps, and a lifting belt. Then, utilizing the high-bar squat technique, Emily easily unracked the bar and moved back a few steps.

After taking a few deep breaths, Emily Ibanez decided that it was the perfect time to commence her squat. She quickly descended with the weight, seemingly with the goal of not wasting even a bit of energy. Once she reached the required depth, Emily began her ascent. The speed looked great at first, but she soon found herself battling to push through a sticking point. Luckily, her grind did not last long, and she ended up locking out the lift. It is worth pointing out that the 13-year-old phenom performed the lift without any spotters, showing that she was confident in hitting a new PR.

Emily Ibanez has not had too much experience at the top level of competing yet, which is understandable seeing that she is just 13-years-old. However, she has already taken part in one International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) competition — the 2023 IWF Youth World Championships. She was just 12-years-old at the time but battled against athletes under 17-years-old. She ended up placing in the top three across Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total, which turned out to be a historic event, making her the youngest ever medalist in an IWF sanctioned competition.

Although that was Emily Ibanez’s only appearance in the IWF so far, she has also competed in multiple lower-level competitions. Most notably, she won the 2023 U17 Spanish Nationals back in December and was crowned as the best female lifter across all weight classes. She has also displayed a brand new Clean & Jerk PR of 113 kilograms (249.1 pounds) in April.

Emily Ibanez’s skill set seems perfect for powerlifting, but it is worth pointing out that she is currently solely preparing for Weightlifting. However, her recent squat of 165 kilograms (363.8 pounds) is heavier than the current Powerlifting World Record in her respective age and weight classes.

Emily Ibanez started training when she was just 6-years-old. So, now at 13-years-old she is already very experienced, which is also evident by her recent 165-kilogram (363.8-pound) Squat PR. All things considered, Emily is clearly on the right path to become one of the greatest women’s weightlifters in the world. So, it is worth keeping an eye on her career in the upcoming years.
