With IFBB Pro League events taking place around the world, it was an exciting weekend in bodybuilding. The 2023 Van City Showdown lit up Burnaby, Canada on September 30. This show was an Olympia qualifier for the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding division.

Over the past few years, the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding category has exploded in popularity. With names such as Flex Lewis, Shaun Clarida, and Derek Lunsford establishing reputations in the division, fans always look forward to seeing the 212 talent take to the stage. Athletes are currently hunting for the same goal: a qualification for 2023 Olympia, taking place November 2-5 in Orlando, Florida.

It’s been a more challenging season for bodybuilders this year as the point system has been shelved and there are fewer months to qualify for 2023 Olympia. However, the Van City Showdown was one of the few opportunities left for competitors, with the winner ultimately getting to right to face Clarida in November.

Competitors brought their A-game on stage in Canada this weekend. With limited opportunities to qualify for Olympia, the pressure was palpable at the venue and fans could feel it. Prejudging saw the judges take a closer look at David Henry, who looked ripped to the bone with an exceptional lower body. Henry is a proven commodity in the division and recently took runner-up to Hidetada “Hide” Yamagishi at the prestigious 2023 Masters Olympia contest.

However, Henry was up against Hossein Kalateh, and his physique was very hard to ignore. His striations, diced hamstrings, and sculpted back produced a jaw-dropping look, especially when he was hitting back double biceps poses. He was last seen in action at the 2023 Toronto Pro Supershow, though took 13th place. With major improvements, Hossein Kalateh got the job done in Vancouver and earned first! David Henry finished second and Noel Adame finished in third place.

  • Winner — Hossein Kalateh
  • Second Place — David Henry
  • Third Place — Noel Adame
  • Fourth Place — Shane Stewart
  • Fifth Place — Douglas Connor Jr.
  • Sixth Place — Ramiro Campuzano
  • Seventh Place — Mostafa Eskandari
  • Eighth Place — Mohammad Alissa
  • Ninth Place — Jason Stone
  • Tenth Place — David Robinson
