The 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic took place on July 13th at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. It featured 12 of the greatest Strongmen on earth who received an invitation for their incredible strength. They were tested through five events, and Mitchell Hooper ultimately came out victorious.
This was Mitchell Hooper’s first appearance after the 2024 WSM, where he failed to defend his title. Well, that seems to have fueled his fire, as he turned up to the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic in incredible shape. He won three out of the five events and had a 12-point lead going into the Castle Stones.
So, he needed just one point in the final event to secure the victory. Consequently, he lifted just one stone, finishing in last place at the event but officially claiming the title. Due to this, the overall leaderboards show that Stoltman was just two points behind Hooper, but in fact, the Canadian Strongman easily won the title.
Evan Singleton won last year’s Giants Live Strongman Classic but had to withdraw after the second event this year.

Event Recap
Event One — Max Axle Press
The first event of the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic was the Max Axle Press. The goal for the event was to clean and press as much weight as possible on an axle barbell. So, the athletes took turns establishing their one rep max. The reason this was the first event was because some athletes wanted to try to break the World Record.
Mitchell Hooper took the win in the first event by setting a new World Record of 218 kilograms (480.6 pounds). All other athletes lifted below 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds), which showed just how much better he was than anyone else in this event.
Tom Stoltman and Pavlo Kordiyaka tied for second-place since both of them locked out 195 kilograms (429.9 pounds). Stoltman might have also been capable of lifting 205 kilograms (451.9 pounds), but the lack of rest time seemingly hindered his ability to lift more.
- Mitchell Hooper — 218 kilograms
- Tom Stoltman — 195 kilograms
- Pavlo Kordiyaka — 195 kilograms
- Evan Singleton — 185 kilograms
- Mathew Ragg — 170 kilograms
- Tristain Hoath — 170 kilograms
- Andrew Flynn — 170 kilograms
- Kane Francis — 170 kilograms
- Oleksii Novikov — 170 kilograms
- Pa O’Dwyer — 170 kilograms
- Gavin Bilton — 170 kilograms
- Eddie Williams — No Lift
Event Two — Axle Deadlift
The second event of the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic was a deadlift. Specifically, the athletes performed an Axle Deadlift for as many repetitions as possible. The stiffness of the axle barbell added to the difficulty of the task, especially considering that it weighed a total of 360 kilograms (793.7 pounds).
Mitchell Hooper won the second event of the competition as well, cruising through eight repetitions on the Axle Deadlift. He went up against some impressive deadlifters, so this event win was a true statement of greatness.
The runner up in the second event was New Zealand’s Mathew Ragg. With the deadlift being his favorite event, it is no surprise that Ragg managed to lock out seven repetitions and finish just behind Mitchell Hooper.
Tom Stoltman also had an impressive outing, locking out six reps for a third place finish. His deadlift abilities have been improving for the past few years, and this shows that he is now one of the greatest Strongmen on earth when it comes to this event.
Unfortunately, Evan Singleton, who was expected to perform well in this event, suffered a hamstring injury and was unable to lock out any repetitions. Moreover, he withdrew from the competition.
- Mitchell Hooper — 8 reps
- Mathew Ragg — 7 reps
- Tom Stoltman — 6 reps
- Tristain Hoath — 5 reps
- Andrew Flynn — 4 reps
- Kane Francis — 4 reps
- Oleksii Novikov — 4 reps
- Pa O’Dwyer — 4 reps
- Eddie Williams — 4 reps
- Pavlo Kordiyaka — 2 reps
- Gavin Bilton — 1 rep
- Evan Singleton — Withdrew
Event Three — Conan’s Wheel
For the third event of the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic, the athletes had to perform the Conan’s Wheel. Inspired by the character of Conan the Barbarian, Conan’s Wheel is truly one of the most painful events in Strongman. It tasks the athletes with performing a movement similar to a Zercher carry. However, the athletes had to carry a huge 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) metal beam for the longest distance possible. The beam was revolving around a center point, meaning the goal was to perform as many revolutions / degrees as possible.
Pavlo Kordiyaka had a relatively bad performance on the deadlift but made up for it on Conan’s Wheel. In fact, he managed to spin the beam around for 1,035 degrees, which was significantly more than anyone else. This was especially impressive considering that Pavlo was one of the first men to perform in this event and was unaware of what he needed to do to win.
Mitchell Hooper continued to add distance between him and Tom Stoltman, having placed second in the Conan’s Wheel. He did so by getting a result of 836 degrees. This was just 10 degrees more than Stoltman, who had to settle for third place.
- Pavlo Kordiyaka — 1,035 °
- Mitchell Hooper — 836 °
- Tom Stoltman — 826 °
- Tristain Hoath — 826 °
- Mathew Ragg — 798 °
- Andrew Flynn — 783 °
- Pa O’Dwyer — 776 °
- Oleksii Novikov — 641 °
- Kane Francis — 559 °
- Gavin Bilton — 374 °
- Eddie Williams — 373 °
Event Four — Wrecking Ball Hold
The penultimate event of the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic was a true test of grip strength in the form of a Wrecking Ball Hold. Standing on top of a tall platform, the athletes had to grip and pick up a humongous 275-kilogram (606.3-pound) Wrecking Ball and hold it for as long as possible.
Mitchell Hooper quickly returned to winning ways, topping the leaderboards once again on the fourth event of the competition. He held the Wrecking Ball for an impressive time of 118 seconds, falling just short of the 2-minute mark. Moreover, Hooper capitalized on Tom Stoltman’s bad performance and basically won the competition at this point already, having extended his lead to 12 points.
The 2020 World’s Strongest Man, Oleksii Novikov, finally managed to break through to the top of the leaderboards, finishing in second place with a time of 104 seconds. This marked a great success for Novikov, who has been battling injuries for a longer period of time.
The ‘Singing Strongman’, Eddie Williams, rounded up the top three, managing to hold the Wrecking Ball for 101 seconds. This was also his greatest performance of the entire competition.
- Mitchell Hooper — 118.72 s
- Oleksii Novikov — 104.14 s
- Eddie Williams — 101.48 s
- Andrew Flynn — 88.71 s
- Pavlo Kordiyaka — 85.77 s
- Pa O’Dwyer — 85.50 s
- Kane Francis — 74.66 s
- Tom Stoltman — 74.56 s
- Tristain Hoath — 67.00 s
- Mathew Ragg — 67.50 s
- Gavin Bilton — 37.00 s
Event Five — Castle Stones
To wrap up the competition, the athletes took on the Castle Stones. Namely, they lifted and loaded a series of massive boulders ranging from 120-kg (264.5-lb) to 200-kg (440.9-lb). The goal was to complete all the stones in the shortest time possible.
As expected, the King of Stones, Tom Stoltman, easily won the final event of the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic. He completed all five stones in just 20.81 seconds, and officially finished in second place overall.
Kane Francis finished in second place in the event, completing all five stones in 25.06 seconds. Mathew Ragg finished in third, completing all five stones two seconds after Francis.
It is important to point out that Mitchell Hooper only needed one point to officially win the competition. So, he lifted just one stone and did not want to push himself further and risk an injury.
- Tom Stoltman — 5 in 20.81 s
- Kane Francis — 5 in 25.06 s
- Mathew Ragg — 5 in 27.72 s
- Tristain Hoath — 5 in 36.24 s
- Oleksii Novikov — 5 in 36.56 s
- Andrew Flynn — 5 in 49.43 s
- Eddie Williams — 4 in 20.88 s
- Pavlo Kordiyaka — 4 in 29.43 s
