The 2024 Vancouver Island Showdown Pro took place on April 20 in Victoria, British Columbia. This contest featured a total of three divisions: Women’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Physique, and Wellness. Following some intense comparisons, Julia Whitesel took home gold in Women’s Bodybuilding, Marianne Von Gierke claimed first-place honors in Women’s Physique, and Emily Azzarello emerged victorious in Wellness.
The winners of the 2024 Vancouver Island Showdown Pro earned tickets to this year’s Mr. Olympia. Contenders are currently qualifying for the greatest contest of the year — the 2024 Mr. Olympia event, which is slated to return to Las Vegas, Nevada for its 60th anniversary from October 10-13. There is no point system in place, making it more challenging this year to qualify for the big extravaganza.
Athletes have until September 15 to guarantee their spot on the prestigious stage. Olympia President Dan Solomon has promised a historic and unforgettable experience when Olympia takes over the bodybuilding calendar on the horizon.

Women’s Bodybuilding
Women’s Bodybuilding competitors put on an exciting show for fans in attendance. Julia Whitesel was among the top names to watch. Her muscularity and conditioning appeared to be on a different level at this contest. Having secured third place at the 2024 Triple O Dynasty event, she entered this show with considerable momentum.
However, Lena Betka brought an imposing package to the event. With plenty of striations and separation in her lower body, she consistently fought for center stage. Betka also competed at the 2024 Triple O Dynasty show but finished fourth. Following an intense back and forth on stage, Julia Whitesel won first. Lena Betka and Melanie Horton finished second and third.

Women’s Physique
In Women’s Physique, Marianna Von Gierke shined throughout the event with eye-catching shape and aesthetics. Gierke returned from her last competition, which came in 2023 at the St. Louis Pro in seventh place. Aside from Gierke, Julie Schultz also made a play for gold. Schultz last placed sixth at the 2024 Triple O Dynasty Pro in the Women’s Bodybuilding division. After the judges tallied the score, Marianne Von Gierke won first place. Julie Schultz and Arbe Myhre took second and third.

Wellness
In the Wellness division, Emily Azzarello was immediately contending for gold. She brought improved aesthetics and a thin waist with exceptional stage presence. Emily Azzarello took third in a thrilling display at the 2023 Toronto Pro Supershow event. In addition, Jasmine Payne looked to have brought one of her best packages to date. Payne competed at the recent 2024 Charlotte Pro and finished fourth. Following a close show, Emily Azzarello won first prize. Jasmine Payne settled for second and Giovanna Favero Taques Loyola claimed third.
