The 2024 Wales Strongest Man competition took place on July 21st in Cardiff, gathering 14 incredible Strongmen from all around the country. The strength of the field was very impressive, as indicated by the fact that the top four finishers were separated by just two points. However, Jacob Brooke was singled out at the top, thus claiming the title.
Jacob Brooke had just one event win, but his consistent performances throughout the first four events secured him a significant lead. So, despite his mishap in the final event, where he placed eighth, Jacob still managed to secure the overall victory. Matt Dimond grabbed the silver medal, while Mark Jeanes beat Jamie Nelson on a tiebreaker for third place.

Event Recap
Event One — Husafell Sack Carry
The first event of the 2024 Wales Strongest Man competition challenged the athletes to carry a 125-kilogram (275.6-pound) Husafell Sack for a total distance of 90 meters. The time limit was set at 75 seconds, but the goal was to cross the finish line in the shortest time possible.

William Jones looked comfortable with the huge Husafell Sack in his hands, cruising through the course and ultimately winning the event with a time of 36.64 seconds. One more man, Jamie Nelson, finished in under 40 seconds, but had to settle for second, being 2.5 seconds slower than Jones.

Event Two — Press Medley
In the second event of the 2024 Wales Strongest Man, the athletes had to overhead press five implements, which varied in both shape and weight. The goal was to complete as many implements as possible and in the shortest time possible.
First Implement: 90-kg (198.4-lb) Block
Second Implement: 127-kg (280-lb) Axle
Third Implement: 140-kg (308.6-lb) Log
Fourth Implement: 90-kg (198.4-lb) Kettle Bell
Fifth Implement: 90-kg (198.4-lb) Daddy Dumbbell
None of the athletes managed to get all five implements above their heads, but multiple locked out four. So, it came down to who had the fastest time. This was easy to determine, since Matt Dimond was significantly faster than anyone else. He lifted the Block, Axle, Log, and Kettle Bell in just 45.77 seconds, thus taking the event win.
On the other hand, the battle for second place turned out to be much more interesting, with three athletes finishing within approximately three seconds of each other. In turn, Jacob Brooke took second with a time of 59.85 seconds, while Jamie Nelson beat David Ramplee to round out the top three.

Event Three — Car Deadlift Hold
Marking the midway point of the 2024 Wales Strongest Man competition, the third event forced the athletes to perform a Car Deadlift Hold. Coming out to 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds), the athletes had to hold the locked-out position for as long as possible, making this mainly a test of grip strength.
The battle for first place came down to the wire, since Jacob Brooke and Llyr Hughes were both eager to take the maximum points. However, Brooke was the one that came out on top, holding the car for 70.71 seconds. On the other hand, Hughes dropped the car two seconds before, thus having to settle for second place.

Event Four — Bag Toss Medley
The penultimate event of the 2024 Wales Strongest Man was the Bag Toss, challenging the athletes to toss five sandbags over a height of 4 meters. The weight of the bags ranged from 20-kg (44-lb) to 28-kg (61.7-lb). The goal was to finish all bags in the shortest time possible.
The majority of the lineup finished all five implements, which made for some interesting tiebreakers. Most notably, Luke Sperduti won the event with a time of 17.34 seconds, beating the second-place finisher, Mark Jeanes, by just 0.57 seconds. David Ramplee got third with a time of 18.56 seconds.

Event Five — The Stones of Strength
Last, but not least, the athletes had to pick up and load five stones onto the 1.37-meter-high platform. The weight of the stones ranged from 100-kg (220.5-lb) up to 160-kg (352.7-lb). The goal was to lift as many stones as possible in the shortest time possible.
Mark Jeanes loaded all five stones in just 22.02 seconds, which gave him the event win and propelled him to a podium finish overall. However, Jacob Brooke, despite finishing in eighth place at the event, managed to secure enough points to win the 2024 Wales Strongest Man competition.

Jacob Brooke has taken part in a few local and national competitions, but this was undoubtedly his greatest and most significant performance yet. Improving on his 6th place finish at last year’s Wales Strongest Man competition, Jacob managed to become the national champion. Moreover, he recently turned 26-years-old, which means that he has found success at a very young age. Consequently, there is no doubt that Jacob is a great Strongman prospect.
