At 2018 Arnold Sports Festival, a Russian weightlifter was left with blood exploding from his nose before completing a nearly half-ton deadlift.
Russian strongman Mikhail Shivlyakov’s nose erupted as he attempted to lift an incredible 939 pounds during the Arnold Strongman Classic competition.
The Strongman Classic competition shows off incredible feats of strength, with world-record breakers winning $5000 and a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Among other amazing shows of power, one competitor attempted to throw a 25kg ring weight over a 10kg bar. Meanwhile, three participants tried to lift a 145kg dumbbell over their heads.
But it was Shivlyakov who stole the show.
The 37-year-old Russian — wearing a beret, a tip to his time in the Navy as a Marine sailor — aimed to complete a deadlift of nearly half a ton.

However, the strain of it all became too much, as midway through the immense display of strength, Shivlyakov’s nose began to pour with blood.
With the blood cascading down his face, the brave Russian managed to soldier on and incredibly completed the lift. Shivlyakov trudged away triumphantly, mopping the blood from his face with a towel.

However, the stunning lift did not win the event.
Hafthor Bjornsson, known by many as “The Mountain” on hit TV show “Game Of Thrones,” completed a world-record deadlift of 1,040 pounds.
On Friday, Bjornsson had already beaten last year’s Strongman Classic champion Brian Shaw to win the bag-over-bar competition.
The Icelandic behemoth, 29, launched a 103-pound bag over a 15-foot-high bar. He also finished third in the stone shoulder event.
