As Schwarzenegger’s first tip, he emphasized the importance of stretching before beginning each exercise. The Austrian native explains that warming up will get blood flowing to the muscles being used.
“You always start out with high reps so we kinda warm up the area. The first set they do like 30 reps sometimes 50. This is no different than when you do squats you warm up the knees or when you do deadlifts you warm up your lower back. It’s all about warming up and cooling down” Schwarzenegger states.
Addressing his next two tips, Arnold Schwarzenegger focuses on ensuring proper form to guarantee the exercise results in maximum hypertrophy. When targeting the rear delts, posture is important otherwise you end up feeling it in the back.
“You keep the head up. If you go forward too much then you will feel it in the back. If you keep your head up and your chest out then it goes into the rear deltoids.”
After stressing the importance of keeping the head up and the chest out to fully work the rear deltoids, Arnold Schwarzenegger moves into his final tip: using a full range of motion. Furthermore, he explained that with a full range of motion, you should hear the weights clink otherwise the exercise isn’t completed at its full capacity.
“Why rob it one-tenth of the movement which could be, we don’t know exactly, but could be one-tenth of the growth.”
Wrapping up his words of wisdom, Schwarzenegger provides fans with a bonus tip that brings to light why people struggle to actually carry through with consistent workouts.
“Well the only reason why somebody doesn’t want to go to the gym when they get up is because they were thinking.”
Arnold stressed that this is the biggest mistake that one can make. Regardless of what the person is looking to accomplish, his advice is to:
“Roll out of bed and don’t think. The most important is don’t think, just do.”
Aside from his latest tips, Schwarzenegger has made his mission to inform the masses with his Arnold’s Pump Club Newsletter and Podcast. Whether it’s a circuit workout with no equipment or secrets to youthful skin, the bodybuilding legend has the answer.
