A new documentary will shed light on some of the lesser known aspects of bodybuilding legend Phil Heath’s life.
Winning the coveted Mr. Olympia title is the biggest competitive achievement of a bodybuilder’s career. Most professionals pursue the career with a singular goal of becoming an Olympia champion. Thousands of men have spent their careers trying to win the Olympia gold in the 59-year history of the competition. Less than 20 have succeeded in achieving the goal.
Winning the title once can cement the bodybuilder’s place in history. Phil Heath is one of the people that far exceeded this achievement. The 43-year-old became Mr. Olympia seven consecutive times from 2011 to 2017. This is the record for second most Mr. Olympia titles won by an individual, tied with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ronnie Coleman and Lee Haney are the only bodybuilders that hold more wins (eight each).
In the era of bodybuilding when size had become the most important criterion to make it big, Phil Heath dominated the Men’s Open division with excellent proportions, aesthetics, and superb conditioning.
It took an entire generation of bodybuilders to dethrone ‘The Gift’ and the late Shawn Rhoden became the giant slayer when he took down Heath at the 2018 Olympia. Although Phil Heath has not officially retired from the sport, the chances of his return to the competitive stage are slim at the moment.
