Just days before the 2023 Mr. Olympia, Nick Walker was forced to withdraw due to a hamstring tear. Now he is on the road to recovery and is actively seeking ways to stay on track and accelerate the healing process. Focusing on his upper body, Nick Walker shared an update on his physical therapy process and progress in a recent YouTube video and Instagram post.
With his freak factor at an all-time high, so many fans and connoisseurs of the sport were looking forward to seeing Nick ‘The Mutant’ Walker dominate the Men’s Open stage at the Olympia. Having taken second at the 2023 Arnold Classic to Samson Dauda, Walker was a strong contender for the title.
When he first announced his injury many believed he should have just pushed through and still performed. Walker shut down those notions and shared that he couldn’t even walk following his injury. While it was not a career-ending setback, Nick Walker still has to focus on recovering and getting back to his old self.
Following his absence from the 2023 Mr. Olympia, ‘The Mutant’ has expressed that he has no intention of competing at the Arnold next year and thinks he deserves a special invite to Olympia since this was something he had no control over. Bob Cicherillo disagreed, holding onto the belief that bodybuilders should have to earn their way onto the stage.

Remaining transparent and documenting his journey with fans, Walker revealed that he sustained a grade 1 tear and a minor strain. After receiving an MRI, Walker was informed that he wouldn’t need any surgery and was very thankful for that news. He was also told by his doctor that it was already healing quickly.
Nick Walker Continues To Work His Upper Body, Shares A Physique Update
It is a grueling road to recovery but even though Walker has been sidelined, he is still actively working on his form and shared an upper body physique update on Instagram.
“Even when I’m down, I’m always up” Nick Walker wrote.
Nick Walker is taking part in physical therapy to assist with the healing process. In a recent YouTube video, Walker gave a glimpse inside one of his appointments where he received multiple treatments from his PT Karen.
“Took a rest day today. We are Going to head to see Karen, AKA Fixed by KG. She is going to work on my calf, probably the whole body, but mainly the calf honestly, and the hamstring. I don’t know exactly what she is going to do now that it’s on the recovery side but when we get three I’ll let her kinda explain what her plan is as far as what she wants to do.”
Upon arriving at the appointment, Walker discussed with Karen how he was feeling before they got started and shared that he was feeling better.
“A lot better actually. Timing blows, but it is what it is. Feel my calf, it has loosened up a little bit. The only swelling that I have really is going to work its way down but here (thigh) it’s like almost clear already. It’s fast, it works fast” Walker said.
“It looks worse than it feels I promise. It’s just bad timing. I knew cause it started Wednesday before I left and I was just like ‘fuck’ if this happened the Wednesday before the show I was like we could pull this off before it really fucks up.”
Karen started to massage the afflicted areas and stretch his muscles during which Walker revealed he has been able to start doing a little bit of cardio again.
“I will be honest I can even do cardio just the bike though I’m not attempting stairs for a long time though. Just to be able to get on the bike and actually go is just like ‘ahhh’”
Karen explains one of the treatments, Post electromagnetic frequency, and what it is used for:
“It increases circulation which is definitely needed right now and decreases inflammation which again is definitely needed right now. Puts fluid in the joints, takes all the negative cells and turns them back into positives which basically accelerates the healing healing in the body” Karen elaborates.
Nick Walker then follows up with cupping therapy which is believed to promote blood flow. Walker expresses that he already noticed results following his treatment.
“After finishing Nick Walker says “A lot better, calf still a little stiff but it’s a lot better for sure. It definitely looks like my legs less inflamed. Wow, I can see veins again.”
Walker finishes everything off with a little red light therapy which is designed to help with repairing skin and encouraging cell growth. His physical therapy, rest, and efforts to recover seem to be paying off.
Fans can rest assured that Nick Walker will be back at the Mr. Olympia stage, whether he receives a special invite or has to compete for his qualification. Regardless of the path he takes, one thing is certain – Nick Walker will bring his absolute best to the competition.
