Derek of the More Plates More Dates YouTube channel is back with another compelling interview regarding performance-enhancing drugs. In a recent YouTube video, Derek MPMD opened up on some of bodybuilding’s biggest steroid myths, designer drugs, and how athletes conquer drug tests.
As a Joe Rogan favorite podcast guest and a popular name in fitness, Derek of the More Plates More Dates YouTube channel has become a star in large part due to his wit and knowledgeable approach to bodybuilding, exercise, and the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of drugs, specifically, steroids.
Over the last year, Derek has regularly given his take on ‘natty or not’ subjects from The Rock to Mike O’Hearn. He also exposed Brian Johnson, the fitness influencer well-known as Liver King, by sharing a private email that disclosed Johnson’s steroid cycle exceeding $11,000 monthly.
Derek MPMD Discusses Bodybuilding Cycle Myths, PCT Drugs
Derek MPMD gave his thoughts on one of the “stupidest” myths below which involved post-cycle therapy.

“Probably one of the stupidest ones [myths] was how you would come off the drugs. It would be you stop taking them and then you wait two weeks for them to work their way out of your system and then you start a post-cycle therapy regimen of maybe two like breast cancer drugs, essentially.
One is a breast cancer drug and one is like a fertility drug but the way it was framed out it’s like there was this set cookie-cutter way to do the post-cycle therapy and it was just the same dose, regardless of how big or small of a human you were,” explains Derek MPMD.
Even if someone comes off steroids for two weeks, Derek of MPMD emphasized that they still aren’t natural or clean.
“Back then, we were under the impression two weeks after is when it’s gone and you can start the therapy but if you actually look at the pharmacokinetics of testosterone enanthate or cypionate or nandrolone decanoate or boldenone EQ especially that one. That one has like a 15-day half-life I think which means it takes 15 days for half of it to work its way through your system”
“To think that in two weeks it’s out of my system and it’s now time to take PCT drugs, it’s like the reality is, there’s still a fuck-ton in your system. A lot of people are starting their PCTs and actually finishing the PCT while still steroids were still in their system. This is actually what a lot, even Pro bodybuilders, some even do this shit.”
Derek said oftentimes athletes can come off steroids and still retain their size, emphasizing the residual nature of drugs.
“They think they’re taking time off, no dude,” said MPMD. “They’ll even come on camera and be like, ‘Yeah man I’m on nothing right now.
I take this many weeks off every year and I make sure for health and I don’t lose any size because I keep my training and diet dialed — it’s like no, you still have drugs in your system that’s why you haven’t lost size.”
Designer drugs and Birth control As A Performance-Enhancer?
Next, Derek breaks down progestins and birth control drugs, many of which are derived from nandrolone. He also emphasized how birth control drugs are affecting women’s libidos and qualities of life.
“There’s a ton of different progestins that are used in birth control but many of them derive from nandrolone as like the parent and they will just like tweak and manipulate it accordingly.”
“Yeah [women are on it]. Yeah. And keep them and fuck up their blood work, fuck up their libidos, quality of life, some people benefit from it though. It’s use-case specific but that’s definitely an area of… there’s not enough education enough the prescriptions typically, especially at the ages when a girl is 16 and is like ‘I don’t want to get pregnant.’ Well take whatever the doctor suggests, obviously.”
As for designer drugs, Derek of MPMD emphasized that every steroid is derived from a parent compound of testosterone.
“There’s two anabolic steroids created that were synthetic designer drugs. Every steroid is derived from a parent compound of testosterone, even to get to 19 Nor testosterone you still have to tweak the testosterone to get there.
So everything ultimately derives from the same place and you end up with something more anabolic or less anabolic or more androgenic or less, or not effective at all or it hits all the receptors entirely.”
Derek of MPMD Explains How Athletes Beat Drug Tests: ‘Access and Diagnostics’
With varying governing bodies that oversee drugs such as USADA and WADA, Derek of MPMD underlined the ease of defeating a given test.
“Yeah, they claim that anything that is deriving from the parent that they could detect it, but my understanding as of it probably depends on the testing organization, how scrutinous it is, because some of them are specifically looking for a targeted list of these compounds and if you don’t have this exact list you will get passed it regardless.”
Overall, Derek believes athletes with access and privileges to drug-testing facilities could feasibly beat a test more easily.
“Being able to dope, a lot of it is access and access to diagnostics to assess where you stand. So, you know, WADA accredited labs being able to use their tests on yourself in order to assess if you’re going to pop for fill in the blank, that is kind of one of the main ways people are kind of full-proofing the process more.
Because it would be very risky to go into it without knowing what to be cautious of or what tests are being subjected to or what have you. People will have their own biological passport they keep of themself essentially. So it’s not given to the governing bodies that oversee the sport they are in. They have their own data and they are tracking their own shit,” shared Derek of MPMD.
Derek also considered the risk of corruption, where individuals may inform athletes about the timing and location of their upcoming drug tests.
“Some of the WADA-accredited labs have you know corrupt people working in them so you can like fucking tip them off and get them to take a sample and they will test it for you.
There’s stuff people will do to finagle the system to access the diagnostics that another competitor wouldn’t.”
Derek of MPMD recently sat down with Joe Rogan to take a closer look at the UFC’s decision to part ways with USADA, a premier anti-doping drug agency. Considering the change in direction, Rogan told Derek of MPMD that the company might become more lax with its drug restrictions and suspensions when USADA’s contract expires on January 1.
When it comes to the intricacies of drug use in professional sports, Derek of MPMD always offers insightful information regularly. Chiefly, he believes athletes with the most access to diagnostics will have the best chance at besting drug tests.
