The first day of the 2024 Arnold Strongwoman Classic has wrapped in Columbus, Ohio, as the competition is taking place on March 1-2. The competitors performed two events on day one, determining who had the best deadlift and timber carry. So, the ranking list turned out to be very tight, but Andrea Thompson has the lead going into day two.

The first event of the 2024 Arnold Strongwoman Classic has wrapped up already, and it was incredible, to say the least. The women took on a Max Elephant Bar Deadlift, and there were quite a few exceptional deadlifters in the lineup. However, no one could beat Lucy Underdown, who set a new World Record of 666 pounds (302 kilograms).

The second and last event of day one is the Timber Carry, where the women’s grip and speed are put to the test. The event will take place shortly, and we will update the article accordingly. The second and last event of day one was the Timber Carry, where the women’s grip and speed were put to the test. Not many women managed to finish the carry completely, but those who did had a tight race. The one that got the winning edge was Andrea Thompson.

Andrea Thompson’s consistent performance throughout both events was what secured her the lead going into day two. She placed second in the deadlift and first in the timber carry. In turn, Andrea walked away with 23 out of the possible 24 points.

Day One (March 1st) Event Recap

Event One — Max Elephant Bar Deadlift

The Elephant Barbell is quite specific, since it is longer than the standard one, and thus acts differently when loaded with huge amounts of weight. However, most of the Strongwomen are familiar with multiple deadlift variations. So, the elephant bar did not pose a huge challenge when it came to the technique.

The goal of the 2024 Arnold Strongwoman Classic’s first event was to deadlift as much weight as possible. They took multiple attempts, progressively lifting more weight with each one.

As expected, the deadlift event came down to a three-way battle between Lucy Underdown, Victoria Long, and Andrea Thompson. They were the last three women to come out on the stage, and all lifted some huge weights. However, Lucy Underdown was simply incredible, thus winning the event and setting a new Elephant Barbell Deadlift World Record of 666 pounds (302 kilograms).

Andrea Thompson made some big jumps between her lifts and ultimately managed to pull 291 kilograms (642 pounds) off the floor. This secured her a second-place in the opening event, showing that she came to battle for the win and improve on her three podium finishes in previous editions of the competition.

Victoria Long wrapped up the top three on the deadlift event, finishing with a 288-kilogram (635 pounds) pull. Unfortunately, Victoria fell during her final attempt, seemingly injuring her hamstring once again. She also needed assistance to get down from the main stage.

  • Lucy Underdown — 302-kg
  • Andrea Thompson — 291-kg
  • Victoria Long — 288-kg
  • Olga Liashchuk — 275-kg
  • Melissa Peacock — 275-kg
  • Hannah Linzay — 273-kg
  • Inez Carrasquillo — 259-kg
  • Angelica Jardine — 254-kg
  • Erin Murray — 252-kg
  • Donna Moore — 250-kg
  • Rebecca Roberts — 243-kg
  • Samantha Belliveau — 234-kg

Event Two — Timber Carry

The second event of the 2024 Arnold Strongwoman Classic was the Timber Carry. As the name indicates, the women were tasked with picking up a humongous 268-kilogram (590-pound) frame-shaped implement, and carrying it for a distance of 11 meters. However, they were not allowed to use lifting straps, making the event much more difficult.

The frame was slightly heavier than during the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic, and it definitely had a lot of effect on performances of many athletes. So, only five of the athletes managed to cross the finish line. The fastest out of them was Andrea Thompson, who ended with an extremely quick run of 8.43 seconds.

An unlikely turn of events happened in the Timber Cary event, as two women tied for second place, getting an identical time down to one hundredth of a second. Those were Hannah Linzay and Rebecca Roberts.

  • Andrea Thompson — 8.43 seconds
  • Hannah Linzay — 9.53 seconds
  • Rebecca Roberts — 9.53 seconds
  • Lucy Underdown — 11.64 seconds
  • Angelica Jardine — 27.42 seconds
  • Inez Carrasquillo — 9.8 meters
  • Olga Liashchuk — 4.9 meters
  • Erin Murray — 4.5 meters
  • Samantha Belliveau — 4.09 meters
  • Melissa Peacock — 4.01 meters
  • Donna Moore — 3.2 meters
  • Victoria Long — Withdrew
