It seems Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is fully committed to his role in ‘The Smashing Machine,’ having taken his lumps — literally — to get into character. In a recent Instagram video, The Rock revealed he suffered an elbow injury while shooting some scenes for the film. He also discussed his treatment plan moving forward.
From dominating at WrestleMania 40 as the ‘Final Boss’ to recording the voiceover for Maui in Moana 2, The Rock is a busy man. However, if that wasn’t enough, he immediately jumped into a new training camp for the film ‘The Smashing Machine.’ This film depicts the life of MMA legend Mark Kerr, who throughout his journey faced many struggles including drug addiction.
Johnson expressed how honored he felt to be able to take on this new role and how he hopes to ‘do right by the MMA and UFC community‘ while depicting their profession and culture. Apparently, he took that literally since he just revealed an injury he received while recording a scene for the upcoming movie.

The Rock shared in an Instagram video that he injured his elbow while recently on set. In the post, he wrote that he is open to all types of medicine, including his favorite, tequila.

“Functional medicine, holistic medicine, modern medicine – I’m an advocate for it all when we get banged up.
But don’t sleep on the power of the “healing Teremana hooch” 😂🥃
Sunshine & pain 🌞💪🏾
Smashing em up soulman 😉🕊️” The Rock wrote.
In the video, Johnson elaborated on his injury, flaunting his melon-sized abscess on the bottom of his elbow. Thankfully, The Rock appears in good spirits and expressed that he isn’t in extreme pain.
“As you guys know, I am filming a movie called ‘The Smashing Machine,’ and anytime your film is called ‘The Smashing Machine,’ well you’re gonna, you’re kinda gonna get smashed up.”
“Look at that sucker right there. Looks like I got a cantaloupe on the bottom of my elbow. I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes and there might be some soft tissue damage in there.”
Before he can get an MRI to understand the extent of the injury, The Rock needs to get the fluid and inflammation to subside.
“That’s a lot of fluid. We’ll see. I gotta get it out of there first before I get any kind of MRI but pain feels pretty good, but all good. It is what it is until it isn’t.”
The Rock reached out to fans asking for advice on anti-inflammatories. However, he reveals that getting injured isn’t something new to him, having experienced a litany of complications, specifically during his pro wrestling career.
“Listen, if you guys have any advice, any council, you know I’ve been banged up in the past before. I’ve had injuries before.”
“I’ve tore my quad off my pelvis, tore my abductor off my pelvis, tore my entire abdomen wall, all pro wrestling matches, had four knee surgeries, torn Achille’s, ruptures in my back, completely reconstructed shoulder, so I’ve been there before.”
“So if you guys have any advanced advice on some great anti-inflammatories please let me know.”
Johnson has proven that he is committed to his role in ‘The Smashing Machine.’ He recently shocked fans after showing off an epic transformation, leaving him nearly unrecognizable. Although, it could have been the full head of hair that threw everyone off.
The Rock is an incredible wrestler, actor, and overall entertainer. No matter what is thrown his way, Johnson makes sure to give it his all, putting on unforgettable performances. With his skills in the ring and his talent on screen, fans are in for a treat when ‘The Smashing Machine’ hits theaters.
