The 2025 CrossFit Games action continued on August 2nd in Albany, New York, as athletes stepped out onto the competition floor for the second day of the competition. Having performed multiple demanding workouts on day one, the athletes came back to perform some more workouts in their pursuit of CrossFit’s coveted title. Tia-Clair Toomey and Jayson Hopper proved to be the biggest favorites, as they took the lead in their respective divisions at the end of day two.

Tia-Clair Toomey held a small lead at the start of day two of the 2025 CrossFit Games but ended up losing it to Lucy Campbell after Event Four. It did not take long for Tia-Clair to reclaim the top spot, doing so in the 1RM Back Squat.

The men’s division saw many changes take place on the overall leaderboards, with new title contenders emerging after every event. In the end, Jayson Hopper managed to hold on to his lead, largely thanks to his consistency throughout all four events.

Day Two Recap for Individuals

Individual Event 4 — Albany Grip Trip

The fourth event, Albany Grip Trip, opened up the second day of the 2025 CrossFit Games and it consisted of three exercises. Firstly, the athletes had to run a distance of 300 meters. They then followed it up with 12 repetitions of a heavy axle deadlift. Finally, they had to perform a 100-foot handstand walk. That was not it, as the event prompted the athletes to repeat the routine for five rounds.

5 rounds for time of:

  • 400-Meter Run
  • 12 Deadlifts
  • 100-Foot Handstand Walk

*150-foot handstand walk on the final round.

Women: 220-lb deadlift
Men: 350-lb deadlift

Men’s Results

For the first time in his career, Jay Crouch managed to win an event at the CrossFit Games. He maintained a stable pace on the running portions, not leaning forward too much and thus preserving some energy for the deadlifts. His handstand walks were perfect as well, since he often performed them unbroken up until the final round. In the end, he finished with a time of 16:28.57, which also secured him the overall lead.

Kalyan Souza was not far behind Jay Crouch, especially during the final moments of the event. Kalyan made up a lot of time on the final deadlift set and nearly overtook Jay Crouch who nonchalantly crossed the finish line while celebrating his win. Souza achieved a time of 16 minutes and 32 seconds.

James Sprague was nowhere to be seen during the first ten minutes of the event, but that turned out to be a strategic decision. He purposefully held back during the first few rounds and picked up the pace as the event progressed. By doing this, the 2024 Fittest Man On Earth broke through into the top three in the opening event of the day.

  • Jay Crouch — 16:28.57
  • Kalyan Souza — 16:32.62
  • James Sprague — 17:01.62
  • Jayson Hopper — 17:22.91
  • Austin Hatfield — 17:27.08
  • Dallin Pepper — 17:41.29
  • Jeffrey Adler — 17:42.92
  • Ricky Garard — 18:03.94
  • Justin Medeiros — 18:08.40
  • Tudor Magda — 18:11.84

Women’s Results

Lucy Campbell came into day two of the 2025 CrossFit Games just 6 points behind Tia-Clair Toomey. So, she understood what she had to do in order to overtake the 7x Fittest Woman On Earth. While many wondered how well Lucy could perform the handstand walks, having undergone wrist surgery just last year, Lucy proved to be more than capable of being the best. She completed all five rounds in 16:33.05, which gave her the lead and the first place overall, having won 8 points more than Tia-Clair.

Haley Adams was in a comfortable third place throughout the entire event, and it seemed that she would remain there until the end. However, Tia-Clair’s pace kept dropping with each round, which allowed Haley to finish in second place with a time of 17:01.34. Haley

Tia-Clair Toomey went shoulder-to-shoulder with Lucy Campbell for 15 minutes, even leading the race for a large portion of it. However, Lucy managed to get a lead ahead of Tia-Clair on the deadlifts, since the defending champion had to separate the 12-rep sets into two parts. Tia-Clair would have held on to her lead had she managed to beat Haley Adams.

  • Lucy Campbell — 16:33.05
  • Haley Adams — 17:01.34
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 17:37.63
  • Olivia Kerstetter — 17:49.24
  • Grace Walton — 18:00.39
  • Brooke Wells — 18:26.02
  • Arielle Loewen — 18:27.51
  • Danielle Brandon — 18:27.85
  • Aimee Cringle — 18:28.81
  • Madeline Sturt — 18:35.93

Individual Event 5 — 1RM Back Squat

The 1RM Back Squat was a simple and self-explanatory event, since the athletes had just one goal — to squat as much weight as possible. Strength has always played a key role in the fitness equation, as it is a key aspect of everyday life. So, the athletes were given multiple attempts to see who the strongest on the roster was.

  • 1-Rep-Max Back Squat

Men’s Results

Colten Mertens easily won the 1RM Back Squat attempt, as his second attempt of 555 pounds was already enough to top the leaderboards. However, he wanted to solidify his win with a 570-pound squat on the third event, making it look extremely smooth. After the event Colten revealed that his 570-pound squat felt the same as his 400-pound warm-up, indicating that he was capable of loading even more weight if the situation required it.

Nick Mathew came in second place with a massive squat of 555 pounds. It seemed to be his limit since he barely managed to push through the sticking point. However, with the crowd cheering him on, Nick was motivated to reach lockout, which he followed up with an ecstatic celebratory scream.

Austin Hatfield and Jack Rozema tied for third place, having both achieved a squat of 515 pounds. In addition, three more men managed to achieve or exceed the 500-pound milestone, showing just how strong this year’s CrossFit Games roster is.

  • Colten Mertens — 570-lb
  • Nick Mathew — 555-lb
  • Jack Rozema — 515-lb
  • Austin Hatfield — 515-lb
  • Justin Medeiros — 505-lb
  • Jayson Hopper — 500-lb
  • Bronislaw Olenkowicz — 500-lb
  • Dallin Pepper — 495-lb
  • Jorge Fernandez — 490-lb
  • William Leahy IV — 485-lb

Women’s Results

Mirjam Von Rohr crushed a 340-pound squat on her second attempt, after which she realized that she was more than capable of winning the event. Taking a look at the leaderboards, she noticed that the best squat that anyone achieved was 355 pounds. So, Mirjam loaded 360 pounds for her final attempt, achieving the lift without any major inconveniences.

Anikha Greer and Jennifer Muir placed second in the 1RM Back Squat event since they both lifted 355 pounds. Anikha Greer definitely seemed capable of lifting more but simply did not want to risk placing lower. However, she seemed surprised with how well her 355-pound squat moved, perhaps even a bit frustrated for not adding just a bit more weight to avoid the tie.

  • Mirjam Von Rohr — 360-lb
  • Anikha Greer — 355-lb
  • Jennifer Muir — 355-lb
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 335-lb
  • Brooke Wells — 330-lb
  • Olivia Kerstetter — 325-lb
  • Madeline Sturt — 325-lb
  • Claudia Gluck — 325-lb
  • Sydney Michalyshen — 320-lb
  • Abigail Domit — 320-lb

Individual Event 6 — Throttle Up

By the time the sixth event, Throttle Up, rolled around at the 2025 CrossFit Games, the athletes were already highly exhausted. However, they were then met with another strenuous task of completing a Ski-Erg, 28 Chest-to-Bar Pull-ups, and finally two dozen burpee box jump-overs while wearing a weighted vest.

For time:

  • 35-Calorie Ski Erg
  • 28 Chest-to-Bar Pull-Ups
  • 24 Burpee Box Jump-Overs

Women: 16-lb vest, 20-inch box
Men: 22-lb vest, 24-inch box

Men’s Results

James Sprague made no calculations going into event six, having full confidence in his ability to recover in the short time frame that the athletes got before starting event seven. He went full out from the start and made sure to utilize his impressive agility on the burpee box jump-overs. As a result, James managed to finish all exercises in just 3 minutes and 10 seconds to take the event win.

Ricky Garard had a similar approach to James Sprague but didn’t seem quite as quick on the box jump-overs. So, he ended up being four seconds slower than the 2024 Fittest Man on Earth and settled for a second-place finish.

Calum Clements secured a third-place finish in the penultimate event of day two of the 2025 CrossFit Games. He secured a time of 3 minutes and 17 seconds, beating Pepper and Hatfield by just fractions of a second.

  • James Sprague — 3:10.72
  • Ricky Garard — 3:14.21
  • Calum Clements — 3:17.41
  • Dallin Pepper — 3:17.56
  • Austin Hatfield — 3:17.81
  • Colin Bosshard — 3:18.23
  • Isaac Newman — 3:18.35
  • Moritz Fiebig — 3:18.98
  • Jeffrey Adler — 3:19.20
  • Jonne Koski — 3:19.40

Women’s Results

Arielle Loewen came out victorious in the ‘Throttle Up’ event after winning the intense race against Tia-Clair Toomey. The two women went shoulder-to-shoulder for nearly four minutes, with Arielle gaining the winning advantage on the burpee box jump-overs. Arielle’s time came out to 3 minutes and 52 seconds.

Lucy McGonigle finished the event in 3 minutes and 55 seconds, getting herself in between Loewen and Toomey. Consequently, she ranked second on the leaderboard, adding 96 points to her tally to break into the top 20 overall.

Tia-Clair Toomey pushed hard in hopes of securing another event win for herself. However, she was unable to overtake Arielle, who was determined to take away 100 points. Tia-Clair finished four seconds after Loewen, which was still enough for a respectable third-place finish.

  • Arielle Loewen — 03:52.00
  • Lucy McGonigle — 03:55.56
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 03:56.12
  • Danielle Brandon — 03:58.11
  • Lucy Campbell — 04:00.11
  • Olivia Kerstetter — 04:02.59
  • Feeroozeh Saghafi — 04:03.28
  • Alexis Raptis — 04:05.33
  • Aimee Cringle — 04:06.04
  • Claudia Gluck — 04:06.63

Individual Event 7 — Hammer Down

The Hammer Down was the final event for the individual division on day two of the 2025 CrossFit Games and it came shortly after the sixth event. Specifically, the athletes got just 7 minutes of rest before commencing the seventh event. It is important to point out that events six and seven were quite similar in format but included different exercises. So, the ski-erg and pull-ups were replaced by the C2 Bike and Muscle-Ups.

Starting 7 minutes after Individual Event 6:

  • 35-Calorie C2 Bike
  • 28 Bar Muscle-Ups
  • 24 Burpee Box Jump-Overs

Women: 20-inch box
Men: 24-inch box

Men’s Results

The short rest between two events separated the athlete pool, shining a light on athletes with the ability to quickly recover in a short time period. Ricky Garard proved to be the best, following up his second-place finish from event six with a win in the seventh workout. Ricky understood that he needed to gain a lot of points in order to get himself in the title race going into the final day of the 2025 CrossFit Games.

Colten Mertens was the second quickest man in the seventh event. He was placed in heat two, completely dusting all of his rivals and racing against himself in hopes of setting a competitive time. It ended up being just that, as no one except for Ricky Garard managed to beat him.

The winner from event six, James Sprague, got off to a quick start in the seventh workout, completing the bike portion with ease but slowing down a bit on the muscle-ups. He then showed his resilience on the box jump-overs, beating Roman Khrennikov by just 0.35 seconds to place third.

  • Ricky Garard — 4:17.54
  • Colten Mertens — 4:27.63
  • James Sprague — 4:38.85
  • Roman Khrennikov — 4:39.20
  • Chris Ibarra — 4:39.74
  • Ty Jenkins — 4:39.91
  • Dallin Pepper — 4:41.68
  • Jayson Hopper — 4:42.05
  • Moritz Fiebig — 4:43.70
  • Justin Medeiros — 4:45.51

Women’s Results

Lucy Campbell excelled in the seventh event of the 2025 CrossFit Games and took away her second win of the day. Her key to success was pacing on the C2 bike and exceptional form on the muscle-ups, which allowed her to be the first athlete to progress onto the box jump-overs. From there, Lucy only had to defend her lead, which she managed to do. So, she finished with a time of five minutes and nine seconds.

Tia-Clair Toomey found herself in second place, not allowing Lucy Campbell to make any significant dents in her lead. However, the 7x Fittest Woman on Earth was involved in an exciting race, beating Claudia Gluck by 0.64 seconds. With this, the second day of the competition concluded and Tia-Clair held on to the top spot overall.

  • Lucy Campbell — 5:09.60
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 5:26.50
  • Claudia Gluck — 5:27.14
  • Abigail Domit — 5:33.50
  • Aimee Cringle — 5:39.63
  • Arielle Loewen — 5:41.45
  • Mirjam Von Rohr — 5:47.35
  • Madeline Sturt — 5:56.89
  • Lucy McGonigle — 5:58.47
  • Lexi Neely — 5:58.50

Day Two Recap for Teams

Team Event Five — Up, Over, and Back

‘Up, Over, and Back’ was the first out of two events that the teams had to overcome on the second day of the 2025 CrossFit Games. It was all about teamwork, since it required a high level of coordination, pacing, and understanding between team members. Moreover, the athletes still had to demonstrate their individual skills on the chest to bar pull-ups and muscle-ups.

For time in FF/MM pairs:

3 rounds of:

  • 40 synchro chest-to-bar pull-ups (Completed in alternating sets of 10)
  • 10 Worm clean over-and-backs

Then, 3 rounds of:

  • 28 synchro bar muscle-ups (Completed in alternating sets of 7)
  • 7 Worm clean over-and-backs

CrossFit Oslo Kriger had another great start to the day, taking the event win by being the only team to finish in less than 16 minutes. This helped them get back into the title race as they continue pushing toward becoming the first team from Europe to win the CrossFit Games. One of CrossFit Oslo’s team members encountered issues on the final set of muscle-ups, which potentially cost them some time. However, they were so far ahead of everyone that there was no need to worry.

CrossFit Butcher’s Lab Vanlose was the second quickest team to cross the finish line, doing so in a time of 16 minutes and 20 seconds. While they did not win the event, Vanlose still had a lot to celebrate since they officially took the overall lead.

CrossFit Franco’s EMOM Co was just 10 seconds slower than Butcher’s Lab Vanlose, which put them in third place of the Up, Over, and Back event. They put up a great performance, beating a lot of impressive teams, but were just slightly slower than Vanlose.

  • CrossFit Oslo Kriger — 15:56.30
  • CrossFit Butcher’s Lab Vanlose — 16:20.21
  • CrossFit Franco’s EMOM Co — 16:30.56
  • CrossFit 1124 — 16:59.45
  • CrossFit Mayhem — 17:02.45
  • CrossFit Greater Heights Overtake — 17:03.16
  • Camel City CrossFit — 17:24.28
  • Blueprint CrossFit Team AOD — 17:41.38
  • CrossFit Invictus — 17:47.16
  • 8th Day CrossFit — 18:12.97

Team Event Six — 1RM Back Squat

For their sixth event, the teams took on a task identical to the 1RM Back Squat from the Individual division. So, all members of the team had to perform multiple squats until they reach their 1-rep-max. The results from all four team members were combined into one total, which was then compared to the score achieved by other teams.

  • 1-Rep-Max Back Squat

CrossFit Undivided came out to perform the 1RM Back Squat in the first out of two heats but ended up setting a score that was unobtainable for everyone else. Each member of the team achieved a squat that would rank them nicely in the individual division, giving them a combined score of 1,690 pounds.

CrossFit 1124’s total was 60 pounds lighter than the one set by CrossFit Undivided, putting them in second place. That is not to take away from their incredible performance, which was only bested by a truly mind-blowing score that the winners achieved.

CrossFit Body Blueprint Conquer was another team that managed to exceed 1,600 pounds in total. They were 75 pounds short compared to the winning score, securing a top three finish for them. This was CrossFit Body Blueprint’s best placement across the first two days of the 2025 CrossFit Games.

  • CrossFit Undivided — 1,690-lb
  • CrossFit 1124 — 1,630-lb
  • CrossFit Body Blueprint Conquer — 1,615-lb
  • CrossFit Franco’s EMOM Co — 1,610-lb
  • CrossFit Hendersonville Mayhem — 1,590-lb
  • CrossFit Mayhem — 1,580-lb
  • CrossFit Le Repere Mayhem — 1,560-lb
  • CrossFit Oslo Kriger — 1,580-lb
  • Blueprint CrossFit Team AOD — 1,555-lb
  • CrossFit Invictus — 1,555-lb
